How to Get Maroon Hair

Introduction:

Maroon hair is a deep, rich blend of red and purple tones, often with hints of brown. It is a popular color choice for those looking for a change, especially during the fall and winter months. This article will guide you through the process of achieving maroon hair at home, using both semi-permanent and permanent dye methods.

1. Choose the Right Maroon Shade for You:

Ensure that the shade you select complements your skin tone and eye color. If you have warm undertones, choose a maroon with more red hues; if your undertones are cool, lean towards shades with more purple. For a more subtle maroon, opt for shades with a hint of brown.

2. Prepare Your Hair:

For an even color application and lasting results, it’s crucial to start with clean, healthy hair. Use a clarifying shampoo to remove product buildup and follow up with a deep conditioning treatment to strengthen and moisturize your strands.

3. Gather Your Supplies:

You’ll need the following supplies to achieve maroon hair at home:

– Maroon hair dye (semi-permanent or permanent)

– Gloves

– An old shirt or smock

– A wide-tooth comb

– Petroleum jelly or barrier cream

– A mixing bowl and applicator brush (if using a cream-based dye)

– Hair clips for sectioning

4. Perform a Strand Test:

Before diving in headfirst, do a strand test on a small section of hair hidden beneath the rest. This will allow you to gauge how the color will turn out on your specific hair type and whether you’ll need to tweak the processing time.

5. Apply the Dye:

Ensure you’re in a well-ventilated space before beginning.

a) If using semi-permanent dye:

Part your dry hair into sections and apply the dye evenly using the applicator bottle or your gloved hands, massaging the color into your strands. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for processing time.

b) If using permanent dye:

Mix the dye according to the manufacturer’s directions. Section dry hair and apply petroleum jelly around your hairline to prevent staining. Using the applicator brush, apply dye from roots to ends, working in small sections. Save the hair at your nape and around your face for last, as it tends to process more quickly.

6. Rinse and Condition:

After the processing time has passed, rinse your hair with lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Avoid shampooing during this step as it can strip your new color. Apply a color-safe conditioner to seal your hair cuticles and lock in moisture.

7. Maintain Your Maroon Hair:

Preserve your maroon hue by using color-safe shampoos and conditioners, minimizing heat styling, and reducing exposure to chlorine and direct sunlight.

Conclusion:

Achieving maroon hair at home is possible with careful planning and proper tools. Select the right shade for your skin tone, prepare your hair accordingly, and follow each step detailed above for a stunning maroon transformation!
