Sharing AirTags with your friends and family just got easier with the advent of iOS 17. The new update brings along a flurry of features that enhance user experience and sharing capabilities. Whether you’re lending your keys to a friend or managing family devices, iOS 17 streamlines the process of sharing your AirTags.

To start sharing an AirTag, first, make sure that both you and the person you’re sharing with are running iOS 17 or newer on your devices.

Then, follow these simple steps:

1. Open the Find My app on your device.

2. Select the ‘Items’ tab and choose the AirTag you wish to share.

3. Scroll down and tap ‘Add User’ under the ‘Share with People’ section.

4. You can either select a contact from your list or enter their Apple ID manually.

5. Once selected, specify the permissions you want to grant. Options include just seeing location or allowing to play a sound as well.

6. Send the invite by tapping ‘Share.’

The recipient will receive a notification inviting them to accept sharing of the AirTag. Once accepted, they will have access to locate the item just as you do.

For managing shared AirTags:

1. Go back to the item’s details in the Find My app.

2. Tap on ‘Manage Sharing’.

3. Here, you’ll see a list of all the people who have access to your AirTag’s location.

4. You can stop sharing with any person by swiping left on their name and tapping ‘Remove.’

iOS 17 also introduces new privacy features like notifications if an unknown AirTag is traveling with you over time, aiming at preventing unwanted tracking.

In conclusion, iOS 17 has made it seamless to share your AirTags with trusted contacts while still maintaining control over who has access and what level of permission they possess, all complemented by strengthened privacy features for peace of mind.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
