How to Draw a Snowman: 8 Steps

Step 1: Sketch three circles

Start by drawing three overlapping circles for the base, middle, and head of the snowman. The largest circle should be at the bottom, with each successive circle slightly smaller, forming a basic snowman shape.

Step 2: Refine the snowman body

Once you have the basic shape sketched out, erase any overlapping lines and connect the circles to create a seamless body. Make sure the transition from one circle to another appears smooth so that your snowman looks like it has a natural, snow-made body.

Step 3: Add the face

Now that you have your main snowman shape, add two small circles for eyes and a series of smaller circles to form a smiley mouth. Additionally, feel free to draw an elongated triangle in place of one of your smaller circles for a traditional carrot-nose detail.

Step 4: Hat or earmuffs

A snowman isn’t complete without some winter attire! Draw a top hat by making a rectangle above the head followed by a slightly larger one beneath it. For earmuffs, create two small circles positioned on either side of the head and then connect them with a curved line over the top.

Step 5: Scarf and stick arms

Sketch a scarf by drawing two parallel lines that wrap around the neck (between the head and middle circle). Add fringe details by making short lines at both ends of the scarf. To create stick arms, extend two diagonal lines out from either side of your snowman’s middle circle, then draw multiple segmented lines to form fingers.

Step 6: Buttons

Add buttons down the center of your snowman’s middle circle with evenly spaced small circles or squares. These will give your snowman a bit more character and depth.

Step 7: Ground

Your snowman should appear grounded in its environment. Draw a curved, snow-covered base beneath the bottom circle to convey the sense that your snowman is sitting atop accumulated snow.

Step 8: Final touches

As a final touch, you can add details like shading, shadows, or even falling snowflakes if you’d like. You can also personalize your snowman using other accessories of your choice.

That’s it! You’ve now drawn a classic snowman in just 8 steps. With practice, you’ll be able to create unique and festive snowmen to share with friends and family through your fantastic artwork.
