The lotus flower is an elegant and meaningful symbol in various cultures around the world. Drawing a lotus flower can be an enjoyable art project that’s perfect for artists of all skill levels, with the added benefit of producing a beautiful final result. Follow these seven simple steps to draw your own lotus flower.

Step 1: Sketch the center

Begin by drawing a small circle in the middle of your paper. This will serve as the center of your lotus flower.

Step 2: Create the inner petals

Next, draw four teardrop shapes around the circle. These represent the innermost petals of your lotus flower. Make sure they are evenly spaced, surrounding the circle like a compass rose.

Step 3: Add middle petals

Between each of the four inner petals, draw another teardrop shape that is slightly larger, extending outwards. You should now have eight petals (four inner and four middle) surrounding the circle.

Step 4: Draw outer petals

Now, sketch additional larger petals between each of the middle petals from step 3. These new petals should extend farther out, giving your lotus flower a fuller appearance. Remember to maintain a balanced and symmetrical look as you add these outer petals.

Step 5: Detail the petals

To create more realistic-looking petals, add some folds and curves in each petal. You can do this by drawing subtle zigzag lines along the edge of each petal or adding lines within them to suggest depth and dimension.

Step 6: Add some leaves

Lotus flowers generally have large, round leaves that float on water. To depict these, draw a few oval shapes at varying angles near the base of your flower. Add wavy or jagged lines around their edges to give them texture and make them appear more leaf-like.

Step 7: Color your masterpiece

Finally, use colored pencils, markers, or paints to add color to your lotus flower drawing. Traditional colors for a lotus include pink, white, and pale purple. Be creative and add shadows or highlights to make your lotus flower truly stand out.

Congratulations! You have now completed a beautiful lotus flower drawing in seven simple steps. With some practice and patience, you’ll be able to create stunning lotus flowers to adorn your artwork or simply enjoy the process of creating something beautiful.
