When it comes to gaming, having a comfortable and versatile controller is crucial. Many gamers enjoy using the PlayStation 4 (PS4) DualShock 4 controller due to its ergonomic design and intuitive button layout. Fortunately, you can connect your PS4 controller to Steam for even more gaming flexibility. In this article, we will walk you through the simple steps required to get your PS4 controller working with your Steam games.

Step 1: Update your Steam client

To ensure compatibility with your PS4 controller, it’s essential to keep your Steam client updated. To do this:

1. Open your Steam client.

2. Click on ‘Steam’ in the upper-left corner of the window.

3. Select ‘Check for Steam Client Updates.’

4. If an update is available, Steam will download and apply it automatically.

Step 2: Connect your PS4 controller

You can connect your PS4 controller to your computer using either a USB cable or Bluetooth connection.

USB Connection:

1. Power off any other nearby PS4 consoles to avoid interference.

2. Connect one end of a micro-USB cable to the port on the back of the controller.

3. Plug the other end of the cable into any available USB port on your computer.

Bluetooth Connection:

1. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your computer.

2. Press and hold the Share button and PlayStation button on the PS4 controller until the light bar flashes rapidly.

3. On your computer, search for nearby Bluetooth devices.

4. Select ‘Wireless Controller’ from the list and complete any pairing process required by your system.

Step 3: Configure Steam to use your PS4 controller

Configuring Steam is straightforward; follow these steps:

1. Open the Steam client.

2. In the top right corner, click ‘Settings’ (the gear icon).

3. In the Settings window, select ‘Controller’ from the left menu.

4. Click ‘General Controller Settings.’

5. Check the box next to ‘PlayStation Configuration Support.’

6. From the list of detected controllers, select your PS4 controller.

7. Customize any button mappings or settings needed for your specific games via ‘Controller Settings.’

That’s it! Your PS4 controller is now connected to Steam and ready to use in your favorite games. Enjoy enhanced gaming experiences by expanding your options beyond standard keyboard and mouse controls with the versatile DualShock 4 controller. Happy gaming!
