Das Keyboard MacTigr Review: Sturdy and simple mechanical keyboard

The Das Keyboard MacTigr is a no-frills mechanical keyboard designed specifically for Mac users. It ditches the typical Windows-centric layout and offers a clean, minimalist aesthetic with a focus on functionality. But does it deliver the tactile satisfaction and typing experience you’d expect from a Das Keyboard?

The MacTigr boasts a sturdy aluminum frame and a robust build quality. It feels solid and reassuringly stable, unlike some flimsy plastic keyboards. The keycaps are PBT plastic, ensuring longevity and resistance to shine. While the linear MX Red switches provide a smooth, quiet typing experience, they lack the tactile feedback some prefer. However, they’re responsive and offer a satisfying “thunk” with each keystroke.

The MacTigr’s layout is optimized for macOS, featuring dedicated media keys, a dedicated function row, and a convenient “Command” key placement. The lack of backlighting might be a dealbreaker for some, but the clear legends on the keycaps make it easily readable even in low-light conditions.

Overall, the Das Keyboard MacTigr is a solid choice for Mac users who prioritize durability and a clean, efficient typing experience. It’s not the most feature-rich keyboard on the market, but it excels in its simplicity and focus on functionality. The lack of backlighting and the linear switch type might be a turn-off for some, but if you’re looking for a reliable, well-built keyboard specifically for your Mac, the MacTigr is a worthy contender.
