Android Settings You Should Change Right Now

If you’re an Android user, you might not think about the settings on your phone until something goes wrong. But there are actually some settings that you should change right now to make your phone run smoother and to enhance your privacy and security.

1. Lock Screen Security: The first setting you should consider changing is your lock screen security. You can choose from a PIN, password, pattern, or biometric authentication like fingerprint or facial recognition. It’s essential to set up a secure lock screen as it protects your phone from unauthorized access.

2. WiFi Preferences: Another setting to consider changing is your WiFi preferences. By default, your phone is set to automatically connect to any available WiFi network without your permission. This setting can leave your phone vulnerable to hackers. To disable this, go to Settings > WiFi > Advanced > WiFi Preferences, and turn off “Turn on Wi-Fi automatically.”

3. App Permissions: It’s also crucial to review app permissions regularly. Some apps require access to your contacts, camera, microphone, and location to function correctly. However, not all apps need all this information, and granting it all could prove detrimental to your privacy and security. You can review and adjust app permissions in Settings > Apps & notifications > App Permissions.

4. GPS Location: Your phone has a GPS feature that helps you navigate, but it’s not always necessary. Some apps use GPS to provide you with location-based services, but some apps might use it to collect data on you. If you’re concerned about your privacy, you can turn off location services in Settings > Location.

5. Battery Saver: Phone batteries do not last forever, and it’s essential to take care of them. Many Android devices come with a battery saver mode that will enhance your phone’s battery life. You can activate this setting whenever you want to prolong your phone’s battery life by going to Settings > Battery > Battery Saver.

6. Developer Options: Developer options on your Android phone offer advanced settings you might not understand. For this reason, they are hidden and disabled by default. However, if you are a tech enthusiast, you can activate it by going to Settings > About phone > Build number. Tap the Build number seven times to activate this setting. Keep in mind that you should exercise caution and read guidelines for any changes you make in this area.
