A Comprehensive Guide to Using Your Instant Pot

Introduction

The Instant Pot has become one of the most popular kitchen appliances in recent years, offering a convenient and versatile way to prepare delicious meals in less time, and with less effort. In this article, we’ll discuss CNET’s tips on how to use your Instant Pot effectively and explore the multiple functions it offers for everyday cooking.

1. Understanding different functions

An Instant Pot is a multi-cooker that combines the functions of a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, steamer, yogurt maker, and even a sauté pan. Familiarize yourself with each function to take advantage of its full potential and make cooking a breeze.

2. Pressure cooking basics

With its high-pressure settings, the Instant Pot makes dishes that would typically take hours of cooking to be ready in a fraction of the time. Begin by adding liquid (usually water or broth) to the pot, followed by the ingredients. Make sure not to overfill it – aim for about two-thirds full at most. Close the lid securely and set the pressure release valve to “sealing” before selecting your desired pressure cooking settings.

3. Releasing pressure

After your dish is cooked under pressure, you can release the steam using either natural release (waiting for pressure to dissipate) or quick release (moving the valve to “venting”). Remember that quick release should only be used when instructed by your recipe’s guidelines as it may result in undercooked food or splatters.

4. Sauté function

The Instant Pot is capable of sautéing ingredients like onions and garlic, browning meat before pressure cooking, or even simmering sauces after cooking is complete. Use this function with caution as it heats quickly; adjust heat settings as needed.

5. Slow cooking

For slow-cooked meals, use the slow cook function that works similarly to a traditional slow
cooker. Adjust the settings for time and heat intensity as required by your recipe.

6. Steaming

The Instant Pot can be used for steaming vegetables, fish, or dumplings by placing a steamer basket or trivet inside the pot. Add water to create steam and set the time as per your requirement.

7. Yogurt-making

Making yogurt at home is easy with an Instant Pot. The appliance maintains the perfect temperature to culture yogurt without any fuss. All you need is milk, a yogurt starter, and a bit of patience.

Conclusion

The Instant Pot is a versatile kitchen appliance that helps busy home cooks prepare delicious meals with minimal effort. By understanding its functions and features, you can save time and expand your culinary horizons with ease. Don’t forget to consult the user manual as well as CNET’s helpful guides for additional tips on making your Instant Pot experience even better.
