Philo vs. YouTube TV: What’s the Difference?

In the world of streaming TV services, there are numerous options available in the market. Two popular options are Philo and YouTube TV. While both offer a similar service, there are significant differences between the two. In this article, we will review the differences between Philo and YouTube TV to help you decide which one is best for you.

Channel Lineup

Philo offers an impressive lineup of 60+ channels, mainly focused on lifestyle, entertainment, and family-friendly content. It includes popular networks such as A&E, AMC, BET, Discovery, Food Network, HGTV, MTV, Nickelodeon, and TLC. However, it lacks channels such as NBC, ESPN, and local stations, which may be a downside for sports and news fans.

On the other hand, YouTube TV provides a broader collection of channels, including 85+ channels with a mix of entertainment, news, and sports. It includes local affiliates, major networks such as ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC, and popular channels such as ESPN, FX, National Geographic, and USA. Overall, YouTube TV offers a more comprehensive channel lineup for its subscribers.

Pricing

Pricing is an essential factor when choosing any streaming service. Philo is one of the most affordable TV streaming services on the market, with a standard package costing $25 per month. You can also upgrade to a $30 per month package that includes nine additional channels. Philo also offers a seven-day free trial for new subscribers.

On the other hand, YouTube TV is comparatively expensive, costing $65 per month. However, it does offer more channels than Philo, including local affiliates in most markets. The price also includes unlimited DVR storage space and the ability to add up to six accounts per household. YouTube TV offers a 14-day free trial for new subscribers.

User Experience

The ease of use and platform compatibility is another significant factor when choosing a streaming TV service. Philo is compatible with major platforms such as Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Google Chromecast, and mobile devices running iOS or Android. The service allows up to three simultaneous streams and offers unlimited DVR storage.

Similarly, YouTube TV is now available on most devices, including Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, and Android TV. The service offers unlimited DVR storage, which sets it apart from other streaming services. It also allows up to three simultaneous streams.

Philo and YouTube TV cater to different audiences, and your choice of service will depend on your preferences. If you’re looking for a low-cost, family-friendly streaming service with a limited number of channels, then Philo is an excellent option for you. However, if you’re looking for a more comprehensive channel lineup and the ability to watch local news and sports, then YouTube TV is the better choice. Ultimately, both streaming services are worth considering, and both offer free trials, so you can test them out before committing to a service.
