A tragic incident unfolded in south Fargo on Wednesday, November 13, resulting in one fatality following an officer-involved shooting. The Fargo Police Department responded to a call about a suicidal individual at approximately 10:15 a.m. in the 6100 block of 61st Avenue South.

Upon arrival, officers learned that a man was armed inside the home. After about 40 minutes of attempted communication, the 65-year-old man emerged from the residence carrying a handgun. At this point, two officers discharged their firearms, resulting in the man’s death at the scene.

The officers involved, a sergeant with 8 years of experience and an officer with 8 months of experience, have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation (NDBCI) has taken over the case.

Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski addressed the media, describing the incident as “a tragedy.” He stated that the man was known to Fargo police and had made frequent similar calls for service regarding medical assistance and suicidal thoughts, including six times in 2024 alone.
