Portugal is a country that captivates with its charm, its vibrant culture, and picturesque landscapes. If you are planning to visit in 2024, here are 9 cities you must add to your itinerary.

1. Lisbon – The capital city is a tapestry of old-world allure and contemporary vibrancy. Explore the historic districts of Belém and Alfama, ride the iconic Tram 28, and taste the famous pastel de nata.

2. Porto – Known for its port wine production, this city is not only about the drink but also the Douro riverfront, the stunning Livraria Lello bookstore, and the São Bento railway station with its azulejo (tile) panels.

3. Sintra – A UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its fairy-tale palaces such as Pena Palace and the gothic Quinta da Regaleira. The enchanting forests surrounding the town are perfect for hiking enthusiasts.

4. Coimbra – Home to one of Europe’s oldest universities, Coimbra exudes an academic charm. Visit the library Joanina and Old Cathedral before enjoying a live fado performance.

5. Évora – Step back in time as you enter this walled city that holds Roman ruins like Templo de Diana alongside a medieval village atmosphere.

6. Braga – Often described as the Portuguese Rome due to its religious history. Don’t miss the Bom Jesus do Monte with its Baroque stairway pilgrimage site.

7. Aveiro – Referred to as ‘The Venice of Portugal,’ this coastal city has canals lined with colorful moliceiros (boats). Indulge in ovos moles — a sweet treat unique to Aveiro.

8. Lagos (Algarve) – If you’re looking for sun-soaked beaches, dramatic coastal cliffs, and lively nightlife, Lagos should be on your list.

9. Guimarães – Known as the birthplace of Portugal where visitors immerse in rich medieval history by exploring its well-preserved old town and Guimarães Castle.

Each city offers a distinct experience that together encapsulate the essence of Portugal’s rich history, culture, and natural beauty – making them essential stops on any traveler’s itinerary for 2024.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
