The Sooner State may be underappreciated for its outdoor offerings, but with a diverse tapestry of landscapes ranging from expansive plains to wildlife-filled woods, it’s a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts who prefer the charm of small towns. Here are the 8 best small towns in Oklahoma for those who love to engage with nature:

1. Broken Bow – Nestled in the southeastern part of the state, Broken Bow is gateway to Beavers Bend State Park. This area is a haven for fishing, boating on Broken Bow Lake, and hiking through lush forests.

2. Medicine Park – An antique cobblestone community near Lawton offers direct access to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge where buffalo roam free and Longhorn cattle graze. Hiking up Mount Scott provides breathtaking views.

3. Tahlequah – Situated at the foothills of the Ozarks, this town is steeped in Cherokee culture and offers idyllic spots for kayaking or floating down Illinois River.

4. Sulphur – Home to the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Sulphur presents a mix of verdant hillsides, mineral springs, and Lake of the Arbuckles – ideal for fishing enthusiasts.

5. Guthrie – North of Oklahoma City lies Guthrie, where outdoor lovers can explore more urban adventures in their outdoor pursuits with historical tours followed by treks along nearby Cimarron River.

6. Eufaula – Hosting the state’s largest lake, Lake Eufaula, this town has ample opportunities for water sports as well as trails meandering through Eufaula Wildlife Refuge.

7. Talihina – The western gateway to the Ouachita Mountains and part of the Ouachita National Forest, Talihina dazzles with its fall foliage drives and rich opportunities for mountain biking and hunting.

8. Watonga – This town provides a quaint starting point to explore Roman Nose State Park with its natural springs and challenging golf course set against a landscape ideal for hiking and camping.

Each town offers unique attractions and activities fully immersing visitors in Oklahoma’s natural beauty. Perfect for those looking to escape the rush of city life; these towns are sure to satisfy all levels of outdoor adventurers.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
