Budapest, Hungary’s vibrant capital, is steeped in history, culture, and natural beauty. It’s a city that can satisfy a diverse range of interests whether you’re into architecture, spas, nightlife or just soaking up the local atmosphere. Here are 13 of the best things to do in Budapest:

1.Explore the Buda Castle: This stunning historical palace complex offers breath-taking views of the city and houses important cultural sites, including the Hungarian National Gallery and The Budapest History Museum.

2.Enjoy the Thermal Baths: Budapest is famous for its thermal baths, with Széchenyi and Gellért Baths being amongst the most popular for visitors seeking relaxation.

3.Stroll Along the Danube Promenade: Take a walk on this scenic promenade by the river to see iconic sights such as the Shoes on the Danube Bank – a poignant WW2 memorial.

4.Visit St. Stephen’s Basilica: Admire this neoclassical church’s stunning architecture and perhaps even climb up to its dome for a 360-degree view over Budapest.

5.Experience Ruin Bars: Located in Budapest’s old Jewish Quarter, these bars are unique hangouts that combine eclectic decoration with vibrant night-life in abandoned buildings.

6.Walk Across Chain Bridge: The first permanent bridge connecting Buda and Pest is not just a marvel of engineering but also provides gorgeous views especially at night.

7.Climb Gellért Hill: For a slightly challenging yet rewarding experience, hike up this hill to see Citadella and take in panoramic vistas of Budapest.

8.Savor Hungarian Cuisine: Make sure to try traditional dishes like goulash, paprikash, lángos, and sweet chimney cake (kürtőskalács) at local eateries.

9.Discover Heroes’ Square: One of the major squares of Budapest noted for its iconic statue complex featuring important national leaders as well as The Museum of Fine Arts and The Palace of Art.

10.Enjoy Opera or Ballet at The Hungarian State Opera House: The neo-renaissance building hosts world-class performances in one of Europe’s most beautiful opera houses.

11.Take a Danube River Cruise: Whether by day or by night, a cruise on the Danube gives you a fresh perspective on Budapest’s many landmarks that line the river.

12.Tour the Hungarian Parliament Building: Learn about Hungary’s political history and see its stunning interior through guided tours available when parliament is not in session.

13.Visit The Great Market Hall: For an authentic shopping experience head here to find everything from souvenirs to spices, meats and an array of Hungarian specialties.

Whether you prefer indoor museums or outdoor adventures, culinary delights or historical sights, Budapest has plenty to offer to make your visit memorable.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
