Autumn is a season that comes in a blaze of color, as trees put on a spectacular show before the onset of winter. Here are the 13 best places to view fall foliage in 2024, where nature’s fiery palette promises breathtaking scenes.

.Stowe, Vermont –Heralded as one of the top spots in New England, Stowe offers a rich tapestry of reds, oranges, and yellows, best enjoyed along its scenic drives or by taking a gondola ride up Mount Mansfield.

.Aspen, Colorado –Named after the trees that turn a brilliant yellow in the fall, Aspen provides a stunning contrast against the evergreen pines and rugged mountain backdrop.

.The Catskills, New York –Just a couple of hours from NYC, the Catskills become an artist’s canvas dotted with quaint towns and historic landmarks amidst the colorful hills.

.The Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina & Virginia –This iconic drive offers panoramic views of Appalachia’s dense and diverse forest canopy.

.Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee & North Carolina –As America’s most visited national park, it flaunts impressive fall colors thanks to its wide range of elevations.

.Lake Placid, New York –Surrounded by the Adirondack Mountains which feature a medley of oak, maple, and birch trees creating an unforgettable fall display around the serene lake.

.The Berkshires, Massachusetts –Offering a serene retreat with small-town charm amidst rolling hills bursting with color come autumn.

.Nikko, Japan –While not in North America, Nikko dazzles with koyo (autumn leaves) contrasted against historical shrines and temples; an unforgettable international leaf-peeping destination.

.Kyoto, Japan –Another international hotspot for vibrant fall foliage; Kyoto’s many gardens and temples provide an idyllic setting for leaf viewers.

.Julian Alps, Slovenia –For those seeking European hues, the Julian Alps offer a breathtaking array of colors coupled with alpine landscapes and crystal-clear lakes.

.Banff National Park, Canada –Witness golden larches set against turquoise glacial lakes and snow-capped peaks for an awe-inspiring autumn experience.

.Munich Surroundings (Bavaria), Germany –Beyond Oktoberfest festivities lie picturesque forests boasting golden beech trees that are absolutely stunning in late fall.

.Shenandoah National Park, Virginia –With over 500 miles of trails weaving through hardwood forests ablaze in autumn glory makes Shenandoah a must-visit for leaf peepers.

In 2024, plan your trips around peak foliage times for each location to ensure you witness the full beauty these destinations offer during this magical season.
