Lobster is a delicious and luxurious seafood option, perfect for special occasions or simply when you’re craving something indulgent. Cooking a lobster may seem intimidating at first, but with these nine easy steps, you’ll be enjoying an exquisite lobster dish in no time.

1. Choose a live lobster: When selecting your lobster, look for one that’s lively and responsive. A healthy lobster will move its claws and legs when picked up, ensuring its freshness.

2. Prepare the cooking pot: Fill a large pot with enough water to cover the lobster completely. Add a tablespoon of salt for each quart of water and bring it to a rolling boil.

3. Prepare the lobster: While waiting for the water to boil, place the live lobster in the freezer for 15-20 minutes. This will make it less aware of its surroundings and more relaxed, easing the cooking process.

4. Boil the lobster: Carefully place the lobster headfirst into the boiling water and then cover your pot with a lid. Boil the lobster according to its weight (approximately 14 minutes for 1-1 1/4 pound lobsters or 18-20 minutes for 1 1/2 to 2-pound lobsters).

5. Test for doneness: Using tongs, carefully remove the lobster from the pot. Gently pull on one of its antennae; if it comes off easily, the lobster is done.

6. Remove from heat: Carefully take out the cooked lobster from the boiling water using tongs and place it on a cutting board to cool down.

7. Crack open shells: Once your lobster has cooled down enough to handle, use a nutcracker or kitchen shears to crack open its claws and tail shell. You can also use a knife to separate its tail from its body.

8. Remove meat: Extract all the succulent lobster meat from its shell, including the claws, tail, and knuckles.

9. Serve the lobster: Arrange the lobster meat on a plate and garnish with lemon wedges. Serve with melted butter or your favorite sauce for dipping.

With these nine simple steps, you’ll have a beautifully cooked lobster ready to enjoy. Now that you know how to cook this delectable seafood, treat yourself or your guests to a mouthwatering lobster feast any time you desire.
