4 Ways to Drink Green Tea Without the Side Effects

Green tea has been enjoyed for centuries due to its numerous health benefits such as being rich in antioxidants, providing essential nutrients, and boosting metabolism. However, for some people, drinking green tea can lead to side effects like caffeine sensitivity, iron absorption issues, or stomach discomfort. Here are four ways you can still enjoy the health benefits of green tea without the side effects.

1. Go Caffeine-Free

For those who are sensitive to caffeine, choosing decaffeinated green tea is an excellent alternative. Decaffeinated green tea contains only a fraction of the caffeine content found in regular green tea. You can find a variety of flavors and brands that offer decaf versions allowing you to enjoy green tea without experiencing any jittery side effects.

2. Consume Green Tea Extracts

Another way to enjoy the benefits of green tea without ingesting the actual beverage is by taking green tea extracts or supplements. These products come in different forms like capsules or powdered extracts and can be easily included into your daily routine. Make sure to choose reputable brands and consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new supplement regimen.

3. Try Cold-Brewing Green Tea

For those who experience stomach discomfort when drinking hot green tea, cold-brewing is a gentle alternative that maintains the benefits of this healthy drink. To cold-brew green tea, simply place your teabag or loose-leaf tea in cold water for 6-12 hours before consuming it. This method results in a smoother taste and provides lower acidity levels compared to hot-brewed green tea.

4. Don’t Pair Green Tea with Iron-Rich Foods

One of the possible downsides of drinking green tea is its effect on iron absorption in your body due to the presence of tannins. To avoid this, it is best not to consume green tea alongside iron-rich foods like red meat, spinach, or even supplements containing iron. Keeping a gap of at least an hour between consuming green tea and iron-rich meals can mitigate this issue.

In conclusion, green tea is undoubtedly a healthy and beneficial beverage for many people. However, if you experience side effects from its consumption, try these four methods to continue reaping the rewards of green tea without any unwelcome consequences. Always consult your healthcare provider before making any significant changes to your diet or supplement regimen.
