Protecting your favorite shoes from the elements can be a challenge, especially when it comes to water and stain resistance. Fortunately, Scotchgard can help safeguard your footwear, making them more durable and easier to maintain. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to effectively Scotchgard your shoes.

1. Choose the right Scotchgard product: Make sure to use a product specifically designed for the type of material your shoes are made from, such as leather, suede, or fabric.

2. Clean your shoes: Thoroughly clean your shoes by removing any dirt or debris using a soft brush or cloth. Make sure they are free of dust and completely dry before applying the spray.

3. Test for colorfastness: Find an inconspicuous area of your shoe and spray a small amount of Scotchgard on it. Wait a few moments to see if there are any adverse effects on the color or texture of the material.

4. Prepare the area: Set up a well-ventilated space outdoors or in a garage for applying the spray. Cover any surfaces nearby to protect them from overspray.

5. Shake the can: Vigorously shake the can of Scotchgard for a few seconds before applying it to your shoes.

6. Hold your shoe at an adequate distance: Position the can about six inches away from the shoe as you apply the spray. This ensures an even application and prevents build-up in any one spot.

7. Apply in thin layers: Spray slowly and evenly, making sure to cover every part of the shoe in a thin layer of product. It’s better to apply multiple light coats than one heavy coat for better protection and even coverage.

8. Let them dry: Allow the shoes to air dry for at least 15 minutes after each coat before applying additional layers. It’s recommended to apply at least two coats for optimal protection.

9. Inspect the coverage: Check to make sure no spots were missed and that the coating is uniform. Apply additional coats as necessary.

10. Allow shoes to dry completely: Let your shoes sit for at least 24 hours to ensure the Scotchgard has fully bonded with the material.

11. Maintain regularly: Reapply Scotchgard every few months, or more often if your shoes are frequently exposed to water or stains, to maintain protection.

By following these 11 simple steps, you can extend the life of your shoes and keep them looking sharp for longer. With Scotchgard, your favorite footwear will always be just a few sprays away from being shielded against water and stains.
