Step 1: Purchase the right pair

Find the perfect Heelys for you by selecting the correct size and design that suits your style. If you’re new to using Heelys, choose a pair with two wheels for greater stability.

Step 2: Put on your Heelys

Wear your Heelys just as you would wear regular sneakers. Make sure they are comfortable and snug, so your feet feel secure while using them.

Step 3: Master the correct stance

To begin, stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart, slightly bending your knees and leaning forward a bit. This stance will help you maintain balance while using your Heelys.

Step 4: Shift your weight to your dominant foot

Determine which foot is dominant by attempting to kick a ball or pick up an object with your toe. Afterward, transfer most of your weight onto that foot while keeping a little pressure on the other foot.

Step 5: Begin gliding on one foot

Begin moving by lifting the toes of the less dominant foot off the ground, keeping only its heel wheel in contact with the surface. Push off with this foot to start gliding on the wheel of your dominant foot.

Step 6: Alternate feet while maintaining momentum

Once you feel comfortable gliding on one foot, try to lift the toes of the dominant foot off the ground, shifting weight to its heel wheel. Alternate between both feet while maintaining momentum.

Step 7: Practicing turns

To turn while using Heelys, practice leaning slightly in the direction you want to go. Be mindful of obstacles and people around and give yourself ample space for turning safely.

Step 8: Master stopping safely

Practice stopping safely by lowering the toes of both feet onto the ground simultaneously. By returning both feet flat on the ground, friction will bring you to a gradual stop.

Step 9: Learn to skate on uneven surfaces

With practice, you’ll gain more confidence in maneuvering your Heelys even on uneven surfaces. Be cautious and avoid high-risk areas like stairs, rocks, or ramps without proper skill level.

Step 10: Wear protective gear

Especially for beginners, wearing helmets, knee pads, and elbow pads is recommended to minimize the risk of injuries while using Heelys.

Step 11: Practice, practice, practice

It takes time and effort to become skilled at using Heelys, so don’t get discouraged if you can’t master it immediately. Keep practicing and soon you’ll glide effortlessly across various terrains.

By following these steps and practicing consistently, you’ll become a confident Heelys user in no time. Remember to prioritize safety by wearing protective gear and taking necessary precautions while enjoying the ride.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
