4 Ways to Cook Ravioli

Ravioli, the beloved Italian dumpling filled with a variety of delicious ingredients, can be prepared in numerous ways. In this article, we will explore four different cooking methods that highlight the versatility and scrumptiousness of ravioli. Whether you’re a seasoned cook or a novice in the kitchen, these methods are sure to impress your taste buds and help you satisfy your cravings for Italian cuisine.

1. Boiling

The most traditional method of cooking ravioli is boiling, which fully immerses the pasta in hot water. To begin, bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Gently add your fresh or frozen ravioli into the pot, making sure not to overcrowd it. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking, and cook according to package instructions (generally 4-6 minutes for fresh ravioli and 6-8 minutes for frozen). Once they float to the surface, use a slotted spoon to remove them from the water and transfer onto a serving dish. Top with your preferred sauce – be it marinara, Alfredo or pesto – garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and dig in!

2. Pan-frying

Give your ravioli a crispy exterior by pan-frying them in olive oil or butter. Heat about two tablespoons of your chosen fat in a nonstick skillet over medium heat until it starts shimmering. Add your cooked (preferably boiled) and drained ravioli in a single layer without overlapping them, and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove from heat and let excess oil drain on paper towels before serving with a side of sauce for dipping.

3. Baking

Baked ravioli is an excellent way to enjoy this Italian dish without having to stand over a pot of boiling water. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and coat the bottom of a baking dish with your preferred sauce. Layer the cooked ravioli over the sauce, and then add another generous layer of sauce on top, ensuring that all pieces are covered. If desired, sprinkle shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the top. Bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown, and let cool for a few minutes before serving.

4. Deep-frying

Turn your ravioli into a crunchy, bite-sized appetizer by deep-frying them! Fill a heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer with about 2 inches of oil (such as vegetable or canola), and heat it to 350°F (175°C). While waiting for the oil to heat up, place beaten eggs in one shallow dish and breadcrumbs mixed with Italian seasoning in another. Dip each ravioli first into the beaten eggs, ensuring it’s fully coated, then into the breadcrumb mixture. Once the oil is hot, carefully lower the breaded ravioli into it using a slotted spoon, frying them in smaller batches until golden brown and crispy (about 1-2 minutes per side). Remove from oil and drain on paper towels before serving with marinara or your choice of dipping sauce.

Whichever method you choose, these four ways to cook ravioli are all excellent options for creating a hearty Italian meal that everyone will love. The next time you’re craving pasta, consider employing one of these cooking methods to elevate your ravioli experience to new heights!
