Introduction:

An RV awning can provide much-needed shade and shelter when you’re out camping or enjoying the great outdoors. Learning how to open your RV awning safely and efficiently is essential in order to make the most of this valuable feature. With just seven simple steps, you can master the process in no time.

Step 1: Make sure it’s safe to open

Before you open your RV awning, check the weather conditions. If it’s too windy or stormy, it’s best to wait until the weather improves. A sudden gust can damage your awning or even knock it off its hinges.

Step 2: Position your RV

Park your RV on a flat, level surface to ensure that the awning can be opened smoothly and without any issues. This will reduce any strain on the support arms and make opening your awning much easier

Step 3: Release the travel locks

RV awnings are typically locked when not in use for safety purposes. On either end of the support arms, there may be travel locks that need to be released before opening the awning. Locate these locks and release them so that the awning is free to move.

Step 4: Disengage the support arms

The support arms should now be disengaged from their resting position against the side of your RV. To do this, lift them up slightly and give them a gentle tug to detach them from their mounting brackets.

Step 5: Extend the awning

Grasp one of the support arms and start gently pulling it outward as you walk backward away from your RV. As you pull back, make sure that the other support arm extends evenly as well. Stop once you have reached the desired extension length.

Step 6: Secure the support arms in place

Once you’ve extended your awning fully, secure both support arms in place by locking them into their open position. There may be a lever or knob you need to turn in order to lock them into place. Ensure they’re securely locked before moving on to the next step.

Step 7: Add extra support (optional)

For added stability, especially during windy or poor weather conditions, consider staking down your awning using tie-down straps or placing sandbags at the base of each support arm. This can help prevent damage to your RV awning and ensure it stays put throughout your camping trip.

Conclusion:

Opening an RV awning doesn’t have to be a tricky task. By following these seven simple steps, you’ll have your awning set up and ready to enjoy in no time. Just remember to practice safety first and

double-check that all mechanisms are secure before relaxing under the protection of your extended RV awning.
