Becoming an Eagle Scout is a prestigious achievement that demonstrates exceptional leadership, dedication, and hard work. Follow these 13 steps to embark on your journey toward earning the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America.

1. Join a Boy Scout troop: To begin, you must first become a member of a Boy Scout troop in your area. You can find local troops through the Boy Scouts of America website.

2. Earn the Scout Rank: Start your journey by earning the Scout Rank, which involves learning the Scout Oath, Law, Motto, Slogan, and basic first aid skills.

3. Move up through the ranks: Progress through Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class ranks by completing requirements that involve outdoor skills, citizenship, and personal management.

4. Earn the Star and Life ranks: To achieve these ranks, you must earn additional merit badges (including at least four from the required Eagle merit badge list), participate in leadership roles within your troop, and complete service hours.

5. Choose an Eagle project: The centerpiece of your Eagle Scout journey is a service project that benefits your community or a nonprofit organization. Choose a project that aligns with your interests and passions.

6. Plan and prepare for your project: Invest time in planning out your Eagle project. Create timelines, gather resources and materials needed, and enlist volunteers to help you complete it successfully.

7. Execute the project: With solid planning in hand, it’s time to execute your project. Demonstrate strong leadership by guiding your team of volunteers throughout the process.

8. Document your project: Keep records of all aspects of your project – interviews, photos, receipts for materials – as they will be required for the final report.

9. Release Liability Form: Have any adult names mentioned in Supporting Letters sign a Release of Liability Form relating their testimony involving minors at their organization(s).

10. Complete merit badges: To become an Eagle Scout, you must earn a total of 21 merit badges, including 13 from a list of required badges.

11. Demonstrate Scout spirit: Show your ongoing commitment to the principles outlined in the Scout Oath and Law in your daily life and interactions with members of your troop.

12. Prepare for your Eagle Scout Board of Review: Compile all necessary documents – project workbook, photos, personal statement, and letters of recommendation – for presentation to the board.

13. Pass the Eagle Scout Board of Review: Attend and successfully complete the board review process, which will assess your Scout spirit, leadership qualities, and overall journey toward earning the Eagle Rank.

14. Celebrate your achievement: If reviewed successfully by the National BSA office, congratulations! You have earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Participate in an Eagle Court of Honor to celebrate your accomplishment with family, friends, and your troop.

Earning the rank of Eagle Scout is a challenging but rewarding journey that requires dedication and perseverance. By following these 13 steps, you demonstrate exceptional leadership ability, strong moral character, and an unwavering commitment to serve your community – qualities that will stay with you throughout your life.
