Introduction:

Graduation is a momentous occasion, representing the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. One way to make this special day even more memorable is by making your own graduation hat. Not only will it give you a sense of accomplishment, but it will also allow you to show off your creativity and individuality. In this article, we will discuss three different ways to make your own graduation hat using various materials and techniques.

1. Cardstock and Fabric Basic Graduation Hat:

 Materials required:

– Cardstock paper (color of your choice)

– Black fabric (for the mortarboard)

– Elastic band (matching the color of the cardstock)

– Hot glue gun and glue sticks

– Loop and fastener (Velcro) attachments

– Scissors

– Tassel

Instructions:

a. Start by measuring the circumference of your head to determine how large you want the base of your hat to be.

b. Cut out a strip of cardstock paper according to your head size and glue together using hot glue gun.

c. Attach an elastic band in the middle for added support and secure fit.

d. Cut out a square piece from the black fabric to create the mortarboard.

e. Attach the mortarboard to the base using hot glue gun.

f. Attach one part of the loop and fastener attachments on the top center part of your mortarboard.

e. Use tassel with another part of loop & fastener attachment and attach them.

g. Your basic graduation hat is now complete.

2. Decorated Cardboard Graduation Hat:

Materials required:

– Cardboard

– Black fabric or paper

– Colored yarn or ribbon

– Hot glue gun and glue sticks

– Tassel

– Metallic paint pens

– Embellishments (stickers, sequins)

Instructions:

a. Cut out two pieces of cardboard, one for base and another for the mortarboard.

b. Cover them with black fabric or paper, securing edges with hot glue.

c. Glue the mortarboard to the top of the base.

d. Attach tassel to the center of the mortarboard using hot glue gun.

e. Use metallic paint pens to write your name, a congratulatory message or draw designs on your hat.

f. Attach embellishments such as stickers and sequins to customize your hat further.

3. Crochet Graduation Hat:

Materials required:

– Yarn (in colors of your choice)

– Crochet hook

– Scissors

– Fabric stiffener

– Cardstock or plastic for mortarboard

– Tassel

– Sewing needle

Instructions:

a. Start by crocheting a beanie-style hat that fits snugly around your head.

b. For the mortarboard, cut out a square from cardstock or thin plastic and cover it with yarn by crocheting a separate piece and sewing it on.

c. Apply fabric stiffener to the yarn-covered square to ensure that it retains its shape.

d. Once dried, sew the mortarboard to the top of the beanie hat.

e. Attach tassel to the center of the mortarboard by sewing it in place.

Conclusion:

With these three creative methods, you can now make your own graduation hat that not only reflects your unique personality but also adds a touch of flair to this important milestone in your life. Don’t be afraid to showcase your individuality and make your special day even more memorable with a custom-made graduation hat!
