The Shih Tzus is a small, affectionate dog breed. With its long, flowing hair, grooming can be a challenge for even the most seasoned pet owners. Fear not! We have compiled a comprehensive list of 14 steps to help you groom your furry friend and maintain a lustrous coat.

1. Gather all necessary grooming tools – A high-quality brush, comb, clippers, scissors, dog shampoo and conditioner, towels, and a hairdryer.

2. Choose a comfortable and secure location for grooming – Set up your grooming space in an area that’s calm and quiet where your pet feels relaxed.

3. Brush your Shih Tzu daily – Regular brushing will keep your dog’s coat free from tangles and matts.

4. Comb the hair to remove any knots – You can start with wider-toothed combs and transition to finer ones if needed.

5. Trim the fur around their eyes – Carefully use blunt-tip scissors to trim the fur around their eyes while avoiding injury.

6. Clean their ears – Using ear cleaning solution and cotton balls, gently clean the outer part of their ears.

7. Trim the nails – Using nail clippers designated for pets, trim their nails with care to avoid cutting into their quick.

8. Bath time – Fill the tub with lukewarm water and gently wet your pet’s fur using a handheld showerhead or cup.

9. Apply shampoo and massage it into their coat – Choose a gentle dog shampoo and work it through their fur using circular motions to remove dirt.

11. Rinse thoroughly – Ensure all soap is rinsed out completely to avoid skin irritation.

12. Condition if necessary – Apply a dog conditioner if desired and rinse completely afterward.

13. Dry your pet off – Using a soft towel (microfiber works well), pat dry as much water as possible.

14. Blow dry their fur – On a low, cool setting, blow dry your Shih Tzu’s hair thoroughly while avoiding their eyes, ears, and nose.

15. Trim the rest of their fur as desired – This might include trimming the hair around their paws or giving them a full coat trim to maintain the desired length and style.

Overall, practice patience and a gentle touch when grooming your Shih Tzu. By following these steps, you will effectively maintain a clean, healthy coat for your furry companion.
