1. Choose the Laminate Flooring: First, select the type, color, and pattern of laminate flooring that best suits your needs and requirements. Consider factors such as durability, budget, room size, and moisture levels.

2. Acclimate the Flooring: Before installation, let the laminate flooring acclimate to the room temperature for 48 hours. This will allow it to expand or contract with changes in humidity.

3. Prepare the Subfloor: Clean and prepare the subfloor by removing any debris and ensuring it is level. Fill any gaps or cracks with a leveling compound for a smooth surface.

4. Install a Moisture Barrier: Lay down a moisture barrier or underlayment to prevent any moisture from reaching your laminate flooring. Some laminate flooring already comes with pre-attached underlayment.

5. Plan the Layout: Measure your room and determine how many boards you’ll need. Decide on a starting point and plan the direction of the flooring planks, ensuring they run parallel with the longest wall.

6. Cut the Boards: Using a table saw, miter saw, or circular saw with a fine-tooth blade, trim each board according to your room measurements.

7. Install Spacers: Place spacers around the perimeter of your room to maintain a proper expansion gap between the walls and flooring.

8. Begin Installing Planks: Starting in one corner of your room, connect each plank’s short side with a click-lock system or tongue-and-groove method following manufacturer’s instructions.

9. Stagger Seams: For a natural look and added stability, ensure that seams are staggered at least 12 inches apart when joining consecutive rows.

10. Cutting for Doorways or Obstacles: Measure and cut around door jambs or other obstacles using a jigsaw or coping saw if necessary.

11. Install Trim and Transitions: Once all laminate flooring is installed, remove the spacers and install baseboards, quarter round trim, and door transitions to cover the expansion gaps and conceal edges.

12. Clean up: Vacuum or sweep debris and wipe any dust or dirt off the flooring with a damp cloth.

13. Enjoy Your New Flooring: Allow the laminate flooring to settle for at least 24 hours before moving furniture back into the room. Enjoy your new durable and easy-to-maintain laminate flooring!

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech.
