How to Deal With Rude People: 13 Steps

1. Stay calm: When confronted with rude behavior, it’s crucial to remain as composed as possible. Doing so will prevent you from reacting impulsively or escalating the situation.

2. Use humor: Sometimes, a well-placed joke can diffuse tension and make a rude person realize the ridiculousness of their behavior.

3. Practice empathy: Put yourself in the other person’s shoes and try to understand what might be causing their rudeness. This can help soften your reaction and prevent any negative feelings from taking over.

4. Ignore them: If someone’s rudeness is excessive and there’s no reasoning with them, it’s best to simply ignore their behavior and move on.

5. Set boundaries: Make it clear to the individual that their rudeness won’t be tolerated, and calmly but firmly remind them of acceptable behavior.

6. Be assertive: Assert your own feelings and opinions, but do so respectfully—this shows that you won’t be pushed around by someone else’s negativity.

7. Adopt a confident posture: Body language plays a significant role in how we communicate with others, so maintain good eye contact and stand tall when dealing with someone who is rude.

8. Use “I” statements: Frame your responses using “I” statements, such as “I feel…” or “I think…” This expresses your thoughts without attacking the other person.

9. Choose your battles wisely: Not every rude encounter requires a response or confrontation; sometimes it’s better to let things go in order to save energy for more important matters.

10. Maintain a positive attitude: Focus on the more pleasant aspects of life and don’t allow anyone else’s negative behavior to drag you down.

11. Surround yourself with positive people: Build a support network of friends and family who uplift you and help balance any exposure to rudeness along the way.

12. Reflect on the interaction: Afterward, take some time to process what happened and consider how you can best handle similar situations moving forward.

13. Seek professional help if necessary: If the rudeness significantly impacts your mental health or if you struggle with constant encounters with rude people, a therapist or counselor may be a valuable resource for guidance and support.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
