1. Number Line Hopscotch: Draw a number line on the ground and have the kids jump from one number to another, practicing addition and subtraction as they go.

2. Shape Scavenger Hunt: Give each child a list of shapes to find around the house or classroom. They can identify and count the number of each shape they find.

3. Money Bingo: Create bingo cards with different amounts of money. Call out the values, and the kids can cover the corresponding spaces on their cards with coins or tokens.

4. Fraction Dominoes: Create dominoes with different fractions written on them. The kids can match the fractions by finding equivalent ones or by adding fractions together.

5. Measurement Memory: Create cards with measurements written on them (such as inches, centimeters, or ounces) and have the kids play a memory matching game, matching the cards with equal measurements.

6. Time Tic-Tac-Toe: Play tic-tac-toe using time-related questions instead of Xs and Os. For example, “What time is it when the big hand is on 6 and the small hand is on 3?”

7. Addition Facts Frog Jump: Draw lily pads with addition facts written on them. The kids can “jump” from one lily pad to another, solving the addition problems as they go.

8. Subtraction War: Play the classic card game of War, but with subtraction instead of comparing card values. The player with the highest difference wins the round.

9. Place Value Board Game: Create a board game where the kids practice recognizing and understanding place value. They can move around the board, answering place value questions as they go.

10. Shape Pattern Puzzles: Cut out different shapes and have the kids create patterns by arranging the shapes in a specific order. They can also identify the missing shape in a given pattern.

11. Doubles Matching: Create cards with doubles addition facts on them, and have the kids match the cards with the correct sums.

12. Measure It Up: Provide various objects for the kids to measure, such as pencils, erasers, or books. They can use rulers or measuring tapes to measure the objects and compare lengths.

These 12 second-grade math games will not only engage kids but also help them practice important math skills in a fun and meaningful way.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
