Eggplants are a versatile and tasty ingredient, perfect for a wide range of dishes. Baking eggplant is a simple, healthy, and delicious way to enjoy this nutritious vegetable. Here are 10 easy steps to bake the perfect eggplant:

1. Preheat your oven: Turn on your oven and set it to 375°F (190°C). Allow it to preheat while you prepare the eggplant.

2. Choose the right eggplant: Look for a firm eggplant with smooth, shiny skin. It should feel heavy for its size and free of any soft spots or discoloration.

3. Wash the eggplant: Rinse the entire surface of the eggplant under cool, running water to remove any dirt or residue. Gently pat it dry using a clean kitchen towel or paper towel.

4. Trim and slice: Using a sharp knife, carefully trim off the stem and bottom of the eggplant. Slice the eggplant into 1/2-inch (1.3 cm) thick rounds or lengthwise into 1/2-inch thick slices.

5. Salt the slices: To reduce bitterness and draw out excess moisture, spread the sliced eggplant in a single layer on paper towels or a clean kitchen towel and generously sprinkle salt on both sides. Allow the slices to sit for 20-30 minutes before wiping away excess salt using another paper towel.

6. Grease the baking sheet: Use non-stick spray or brush on a thin layer of olive oil onto your baking sheet to prevent the eggplant from sticking during the baking process.

7. Season your slices: Brush each side of the prepared slices with olive oil and season them with freshly ground pepper and other herbs of your choice like garlic powder, oregano, basil, rosemary, or thyme.

8. Arrange in a single layer: Place seasoned eggplant slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they’re not overlapping or touching.

9. Bake the eggplant: Place the baking sheet on the middle rack of your preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the eggplant slices are tender and golden brown. After 10-12 minutes in the oven, remember to flip the slices so they cook evenly on both sides.

10. Serve and enjoy: Once your baked eggplant reaches the desired color and texture, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool for a couple of minutes. Serve warm as a side dish, part of a salad or sandwich, or even as the main ingredient in dishes like lasagna or parmesan.

In just 10 simple steps, you can transform this unique vegetable into a delightful meal or accompaniment that is sure to please even the pickiest eater. So go ahead and discover your favorite way to bake eggplant today!
