How to put arcsin in the calculator

Trigonometry is an indispensable branch of mathematics that deals with the relationships between the angles and sides of triangles. The arc sine function, abbreviated as arcsin or sin^(-1), is used to find the inverse of the sine function. Essentially, it helps to determine the angle measures when given the ratio of the side lengths in a right triangle. Using a calculator to find arcsin can be very helpful, especially when solving complex trigonometric problems.

In this article, we will explore how to put arcsin into various types of calculators, including scientific, graphing, and online calculators.

1. Scientific Calculators:

Most scientific calculators have trigonometric functions like sin, cos, and tan, along with the inverse functions arcsin, arccos, and arctan. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use a scientific calculator for finding arcsin:

a) Look for the ‘sin^(-1)’ or ‘arcsin’ key on your calculator. It can sometimes be present as a secondary function on the regular ‘sin’ key.

b) If ‘sin^(-1)’ is a secondary function on your calculator, press the ‘SHIFT’ or ‘2nd Function’ button first.

c) Input the desired value you want to find arcsin for (range -1 to 1).

d) Press ‘sin^(-1)’ or ‘arcsin’ key.

e) The calculator will display the result in degrees or radians depending on your mode settings.

2. Graphing Calculators:

Graphing calculators offer several advanced functionalities beyond their scientific counterparts. Examples include Texas Instruments (TI) calculators or Casio models. To perform arcsin calculations using a graphing calculator:

a) Turn on your graphing calculator and enter into its main calculation screen.

b) Locate the ‘sin^(-1)’ or ‘arcsin’ button (usually found by pressing the ‘2nd’ or ‘SHIFT’ key and then the ‘sin’ button).

c) Input the desired value for which you wish to find arcsin of (range -1 to 1).

d) Press ‘ENTER,’ and the calculator will return the result in degrees or radians, depending on your settings.

3. Online Calculators:

For those who prefer using online platforms, several web-based calculators can perform complex calculations like arcsin. Some popular options include Desmos, WolframAlpha, and Google’s built-in calculator.

a) Open your preferred online calculator or use a search engine like Google.

b) Type in ‘arcsin’ followed by your desired value in parentheses (e.g., arcsin(0.5)).

c) Hit ‘Enter’ or click on the search icon.

d) The online calculator will provide you with a result in degrees or radians depending on its default settings.

By following these steps across various calculators, you can quickly and efficiently find arcsin values needed to solve trigonometric problems. Whether working on a test, assignment, or just challenging yourself with trigonometry practice, knowing how to put arcsin into a calculator is an essential skill for any aspiring mathematician.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
