Introduction

Alcohol can be made from different sources, such as fruits or grains. However, a lesser-known method is using common table sugar to create alcohol. Table sugar can be used as an alternative fermentable sugar source for making various types of alcoholic beverages. In this article, we will explore three ways to make alcohol from common table sugar.

1. Sugar Wine

Sugar wine, also known as Kilju or sugar wash, is a simple alcoholic beverage that can be made by fermenting sugar water. Here’s how to prepare sugar wine:

Ingredients:

– 2 kg of common table sugar

– 5 liters of water

– Yeast nutrient

– Wine yeast

Instructions:

1. Dissolve the sugar in the water completely.

2. Add yeast nutrient according to the package instructions.

3. Allow the mixture to cool to around 20-25°C (68-77°F).

4. Add the wine yeast and mix well.

5. Transfer the mixture into a fermentation container with an airlock.

6. Let it ferment undisturbed for about two weeks or until fermentation is complete.

7. Rack the sugar wine into another container and allow it to age and clarify for a few weeks.

8. Bottle and enjoy your homemade sugar wine!

2. Homemade Vodka from Sugar Wash

You can make your own homemade vodka by distilling a sugar wash made from common table sugar.

Ingredients:

– 4 kg of common table sugar

– 20 liters of water

– Yeast nutrient

– Distiller’s yeast

Instructions:

1. Follow steps 1-6 in the “Sugar Wine” section above to make a sugar wash with these proportions.

2. Once fermentation is complete, transfer the fermented liquid to a still.

3. Heat the still gradually and collect the distilled alcohol that separates during boiling.

4. Discard the first and last parts of the distillate, as they may have undesirable compounds.

5. The remaining collected liquid is your homemade vodka. Store it in a glass container and enjoy responsibly.

3. Sugar-Based Hard Cider

You can also make a hard cider using apple juice concentrate and common table sugar as additional fermentable sugars.

Ingredients:

– 2 liters of unsweetened apple juice concentrate

– 500 grams of common table sugar

– Cold water

– Yeast nutrient

– Cider yeast

Instructions:

1. In a large container, dissolve the sugar in the apple juice concentrate.

2. Add cold water until you reach a total volume of 10 liters.

3. Add yeast nutrient according to package instructions.

4. Allow the mixture to cool to around 20-25°C (68-77°F).

5. Stir in the cider yeast and mix well.

6. Transfer to a fermentation container with an airlock.

7. Let ferment undisturbed for about two weeks or until fermentation is complete.

8. Bottle your hard cider and allow it to condition for at least two more weeks before enjoying.

Conclusion

These three methods show that making alcohol from common table sugar is not only possible but also easy and affordable. Whether you want to make sugar wine, homemade vodka, or a sugar-based hard cider, using table sugar can provide you with unique and enjoyable alcoholic beverages to share with your friends and family. Remember always to consume alcohol responsibly!
