Lamborghini Urus To Lose Pure V8, Go Hybrid-Only From Late 2024

In a bold move to keep up with the rapidly changing automotive landscape, Lamborghini has announced that the Urus SUV will abandon its pure V8 engine in favor of a hybrid system starting from late 2024. The switch is part of the automaker’s larger commitment to environmental responsibility and a transition towards electrification.

Launched in 2017, the Lamborghini Urus quickly gained popularity for its perfect blend of performance, luxury, and practicality. Equipped with a powerful 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, the SUV delivers an impressive 641 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. However, as the industry shifts towards cleaner mobility solutions, Lamborghini has recognized the need for change.

The updated Urus Hybrid will combine a downsized internal combustion engine with an electric motor. While specific details about the powertrain remain under wraps, it is expected that top-notch performance will remain a priority for the luxury Italian brand. With hybrid technology improving every day, Lamborghini may potentially strike a balance between performance and efficiency without sacrificing the exhilarating driving experience that the Urus is known for.

However, die-hard fans of Lamborghini’s naturally aspirated engines must brace themselves for more changes ahead. The company announced earlier this year that it plans to launch its first fully electric vehicle by 2030 and aims to have at least two fully electrified models on sale by 2024.

The decision to transform the Urus into a hybrid-only model is not only indicative of Lamborghini’s dedication to sustainability but also demonstrative of a larger trend in the automotive industry. Many luxury and exotic car brands are embracing electrification at an accelerating pace in response to climbing emissions regulations and consumer demands for eco-friendly alternatives.

As we approach late 2024, fans of the Urus can anticipate a high-performance hybrid variation that upholds Lamborghini’s legacy while elegantly navigating the transition towards electrification.
