iPhone 12 Mini review: Apple gave us the small phone we’ve been asking for

In an era dominated by massive phablets and smartphones that are getting larger by the day, Apple swoops in to save the day with the iPhone 12 Mini. Offering powerful features packed into a compact body, it aims to satisfy those who have been craving a smaller, more manageable smartphone. This review covers the essentials of what makes the iPhone 12 Mini the perfect little powerhouse for those with small hands or pockets.

Design and Build:

The iPhone 12 Mini stays true to the modern yet classic design language that debuted with the iPhone 4. It features flat edges, which not only look sleek but also improve grip. The phone is composed of aerospace-grade aluminum and comes in five beautiful colors: black, blue, red, green, and white.

It’s worth noting that this device is incredibly compact, measuring just 5.18 x 2.53 x 0.29 inches and weighing a mere 135 grams (4.76 ounces). The small size allows for easy one-handed use and eliminates pocket bulges. Furthermore, it boasts an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, offering peace of mind in case of accidental spills or exposure to dusty environments.

Display:

The iPhone 12 Mini sports a gorgeous 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels, delivering crystal-clear visuals and stunning colors. It supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision, providing jaw-dropping contrast levels and brightness for an immersive viewing experience.

Performance:

Despite its reduced size, Apple has not skimped on performance with the iPhone 12 Mini. Powered by Apple’s A14 Bionic chip – the same processor found in the larger iPhone 12 models – this mini powerhouse offers incredible speed while remaining energy efficient.

Camera:

The Mini carries a dual-camera system: a 12MP f/1.6 main wide shooter and a 12MP f/2.4 ultra-wide lens. These cameras work in tandem to produce stunning images with impressive color accuracy and detail. Night Mode is available for both lenses, capturing stunning low-light photos with minimal noise.

The phone is also capable of recording HDR Dolby Vision videos at 30fps – a feature not found in most top-tier flagship devices.

Battery Life:

Considering the Mini’s small size, it’s understandable that it’s fitted with a smaller battery compared to its larger siblings. Although it does not offer the longest battery life in the iPhone 12 lineup, users should still comfortably get through a full day of moderate use before needing a charge. And with MagSafe wireless charging support, topping up has never been more convenient.

Conclusion:

The iPhone 12 Mini is an excellent choice for anyone longing for a smaller smartphone that doesn’t sacrifice performance, camera quality, or modern design elements. Apple has truly delivered on the demand for a compact yet mighty device – an impressive feat considering today’s trend towards ever-larger phones.
