How to Stop Those Annoying Spam Calls You Get Every Day

Spam calls can be a significant nuisance in our daily lives, interrupting us at work, during dinner, or even when we are trying to relax. In recent years, the number of spam calls has skyrocketed, making it challenging to avoid this growing disturbance. This article will discuss various strategies and tools you can use to reduce the spam calls you receive every day.

1. Block Individual Numbers

Most smartphones come with a feature that allows you to block specific phone numbers. Whenever you receive a spam call from an unknown number, simply add it to your phone’s blocked numbers list. Though this method might not eliminate all spam calls, it will help you prevent future calls from the same number.

2. Add Your Number to the National Do Not Call Registry

In many countries, there is a Do Not Call Registry you can join to avoid unsolicited telemarketing calls. Adding your phone number to this registry may help reduce the number of spam calls you receive.

3. Use Third-Party Apps

Numerous apps have been developed specifically for blocking spam calls, such as Hiya, Truecaller, and RoboKiller. These apps work by utilizing databases of known spam numbers and user reports to identify and block malicious calls before they reach your phone.

4. Use Your Carrier’s Call-Blocking Services

Many mobile carriers offer call-blocking services or features that can help reduce spam calls. For example, AT&T offers Call Protect, T-Mobile has Scam Shield, and Verizon provides Call Filter Plus. Reach out to your carrier for information on how to activate these services.

5. Enable Built-In Smartphone Features

Some smartphone models have built-in features designed for blocking spam or unidentified calls. For instance, iPhone users can enable “Silence Unknown Callers,” which silences any call from a number not found in Contacts, Mail or Messages. Android users can use the “Caller ID & Spam” or “Block Unknown Callers” features, depending on the phone model.

6. Report Spam Calls

In many countries, you can report spam calls to specific regulatory agencies, like the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States. By reporting these calls, you help authorities gather information on offenders and implement necessary measures against them.

7. Use a Virtual Phone Number

A virtual phone number allows you to have multiple phone numbers without owning a separate device. It can be useful for separating your personal contacts from business ones. By using a virtual phone number for online registrations or subscriptions, you can significantly reduce the chances of your primary number being targeted for spam calls.

It may not be possible to completely eliminate spam calls, but by implementing these strategies and tools, you can significantly reduce their occurrence and their impact on your daily life. Stay vigilant, and don’t hesitate to take action when needed to ensure your time and privacy are protected.
