HP Envy x360 13 Review: Midrange 2-in-1 That’s Short on Battery

The HP Envy x360 13 is a midrange 2-in-1 laptop that aims to offer impressive performance at a reasonable price point. It sports a sleek design, convertible form factor, and powerful hardware to tackle everyday computing tasks. But does it live up to expectations? This review explores the pros and cons of the HP Envy x360 13, putting special emphasis on its battery life.

Design and build

With an aluminum chassis and a stunning damascus steel pattern on the keyboard deck, the Envy x360 13 offers a premium aesthetic. The convertible form factor allows you to use it as either a laptop or tablet, with the 360-degree hinge providing sturdy support for various modes. It weighs around 2.87 pounds and has a thickness of only 16.5mm, making it portable and easy to carry around.

Display

The laptop features a 13.3-inch Full HD (1920×1080) touchscreen display with thin bezels, resulting in an immersive visual experience. The display delivers sharp images and vibrant colors, making it suitable for entertainment purposes as well as professional workloads.

Performance

Under the hood, the HP Envy x360 13 packs an AMD Ryzen 7 5700U processor with AMD Radeon integrated graphics. This configuration is capable of handling tasks such as web browsing, media consumption, light gaming, and even some light photo or video editing tasks with ease.

However, it still lags behind some competing models in this segment, particularly those powered by Intel Tiger Lake processors or dedicated graphics cards.

Ports and connectivity

The Envy x360 13 comes with a modest selection of ports that include two USB Type-A ports (1x USB3.1 Gen1 and 1x USB2.0), one USB Type-C port (USB3.1 Gen2 with DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery support), an HDMI 2.0 port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a microSD card reader.

Battery life

Unfortunately, battery life is where the HP Envy x360 13 falls short of expectations. While the laptop is rated to last up to 14.5 hours on a single charge, real-world testing shows that it manages only around 6 to 8 hours of mixed use.
This figure drops even further when running more demanding tasks or watching videos at maximum brightness. For users who need all-day battery life for working on the go, this might be a deal-breaker.

Conclusion

The HP Envy x360 13 is an attractive midrange convertible laptop offering a good balance of performance, design, and features. However, its lackluster battery life holds it back from being an ideal choice for users seeking ultimate portability.
Those not bothered by this shortcoming may still find the Envy x360 to be a solid option in its price range, but others may want to look towards alternatives with better battery performance.
