God of War (2018) Review: We Don’t Deserve This Game

Spread the love

Ever since its release in April 2018, the action-adventure game, God of War, developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, has wowed both fans of the series and newcomers alike. In this article, we discuss why we don’t deserve this sublimely crafted gaming experience.

Retelling A Mythical Tale

God of War takes Kratos, the iconic protagonist known for his brutal vengeance in previous games, on a new quest with his son Atreus. The Norse mythology-inspired story goes beyond Kratos’ days as a Greek god killer and reimagines him as a father on a journey to scatter the ashes of his deceased wife while battling treacherous forces.

The intricate narrative and rich character development set this reboot apart from its predecessors. The father-son dynamic between Kratos and Atreus is genuinely touching and engaging. Players become emotionally invested in their journey together and are left with bated breath at every twist and turn.

Revamped Combat Mechanics

While earlier installments relied heavily on frenetic hack-and-slash combat, God of War strides towards sturdier mechanics layered with strategic depth. Although previous titles were known for unapologetic violence, God of War’s astonishing attention to detail immerses players in the feral instinct that embodies Kratos’ combat style during intense encounters.

Kratos’ new weapon, Leviathan Axe, offers exciting gameplay as it elegantly combines power slams with ranged attacks. The weapon can be thrown at enemies from a distance or used up-close-and-personal for devastating combos. Additionally, Atreus adds another layer to the gameplay with his magical arrows and summonable creatures providing both combat versatility and narrative depth.

A Breathtaking World To Explore

God of War showcases an expansive environment that is nothing short of breathtaking. With rich visuals and stunning attention to detail, each Nordic location feels alive, hosting a myriad of challenging adversaries, roadblocks, and hidden surprises.

Every corner of this vast world is designed with a sense of awe and exploration in mind. From the picturesque landscapes of Midgard to the eerie realms of Niflheim or the fiery depths of Muspelheim – the entire game feels like a love letter to Norse mythology.

Puzzles and Side Quests

God of War goes beyond just hacking your way through enemies. Along the journey, Kratos and Atreus face numerous puzzles that require careful thinking and collaboration. Additionally, optional side quests help expand both the game’s rich world and character developments, giving players hours of meaningful content to explore.

In Conclusion: A Game Changer

God of War (2018) elevates the gaming experience to new heights. With its gripping story, revamped combat mechanics, breathtaking worlds, and emotionally charged narrative, it redefines what it means to create a masterpiece video game.

So, do we deserve this astonishing gaming experience? Arguably not. But, we will certainly cherish and appreciate every second we get to immerse ourselves in this phenomenal journey with Kratos and Atreus in God of War.
