Introduction:

Your dishwasher might seem like an appliance that cleans itself while it cleans your dishes, but in reality, it needs regular maintenance just like any other piece of equipment. Over time, food particles, grease, and mineral deposits can build up inside your dishwasher, affecting its performance and creating an unsanitary environment for your dishes. In this article, we will provide you with key steps to deep-clean your dishwasher for better performance and hygiene.

Step 1: Empty the Dishwasher

Before getting to work on cleaning your dishwasher, make sure to empty all dishes and any leftover scraps of food that might have fallen while loading.

Step 2: Clean the Filter

The filter is the main component of your dishwasher that removes food particles from the water during the wash cycle. Remove the lower rack to access the filter. Take out the filter from the bottom of the dishwasher and wash it under warm running water. Use a soft brush if necessary.

Step 3: Clear Out Debris

Look around the bottom of your dishwasher for any bits or pieces of food that may be lingering. You can use a damp cloth or sponge to remove them easily.

Step 4: Clean the Spray Arms

Take out both the upper and lower spray arms if they are removable. Clean out any build-up in their holes with a toothpick or a small brush such as an old toothbrush. Rinse them well under warm running water before placing them back in their positions.

Step 5: Wipe Down Door Gasket & Edges

With a sponge or cloth dipped in hot soapy water, clean around the edges of your dishwasher door and along the rubber gasket. This will help remove any dirt or grime that may affect its performance.

Step 6: Run Cleaning Cycle with Vinegar

Fill a dishwasher-safe container with white vinegar and place it on the bottom rack of your dishwasher. Run a hot water cycle to help dissolve grease and grime, as well as remove any lingering odors.

Step 7: Run Cleaning Cycle with Baking Soda

Next, sprinkle baking soda around the bottom of the dishwasher, concentrating on areas with stubborn dirt or discoloration. Run another hot water cycle to further clean and deodorize your dishwasher.

Step 8: Reassemble Your Dishwasher

Put everything back in place – lower rack, filter, and spray arms – and you’re all set!

Conclusion:

Regular maintenance of your dishwasher can prolong its life and ensure cleanliness and hygiene for your dishes. By following these simple steps, you can enjoy a sparkling clean dishwasher and better performance all year round. Don’t forget to give your dishwasher a thorough cleaning every few months for optimal results.
