Slack is a popular messaging and collaboration tool used by millions worldwide. One of its many features is the ability to set your status, which can be a great way to let your colleagues know when you’re busy, out of the office, or available to chat.

If you’re not sure how to update your status on Slack, don’t worry – it’s a simple process. Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Open the Slack app or website

First, open the Slack app on your desktop or mobile device. If you’re using the web version of Slack, log in to your account in your web browser.

Step 2: Click on your name or profile picture

In the upper left-hand corner of the Slack app or website, you should see your name or profile picture. Click on it to bring up a menu.

Step 3: Select “Set a status”

From the menu that appears, select the option to “Set a status.” This will bring up a dialog box where you can update your status.

Step 4: Choose your status

In the status dialog box, you can choose from a few different options:

– Default: This will show a green dot next to your name, indicating that you’re available to chat.
– In a meeting: This will show a yellow dot next to your name, indicating that you’re busy with a meeting.
– Out of office: This will show a red dot next to your name, indicating that you’re not available.
– Custom: This allows you to set a custom status message.

Choose the option that best describes your status.

Step 5: Set a custom status message (optional)

If you chose the “Custom” option, you can now type a message to let your colleagues know what you’re up to. For example, you might write “Working on a deadline – please do not disturb” or “Taking a lunch break, back in 30 minutes.”

Step 6: Set a duration (optional)

If you want to set a specific time for your status to expire, you can do that too. Select the “Set an expiration” option and choose a time and date.

Step 7: Save your status

Once you’ve chosen your status, message, and duration (if applicable), click the “Save” button to apply your changes. Your status will now appear next to your name or profile picture in Slack.

Updating your status on Slack is a great way to communicate with your colleagues without interrupting their work. By following these simple steps, you can set your status to let your team know what you’re up to and when you’re available to chat.
