If you’ve encountered the “Software Exception 0xc0000409” error while using Windows 11 or 10, don’t worry, it can be fixed. This error message usually pops up when an application or process attempts to execute an instruction that’s outside of its memory space and can’t be handled. Here’s how you can resolve the error.

  1. Run System File Checker (SFC) scan

The first step in resolving the “Software Exception 0xc0000409” error is running an SFC scan to check for any missing or corrupted system files. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Open the Command Prompt as an administrator.

2. Type in the command “sfc /scannow” without quotes and press Enter.

3. Wait for the scan to complete. This may take some time, so be patient.

4.Restart your computer and try launching the application or process that was causing the error to see if the issue has been resolved.

  1. Update your drivers and software

Outdated or incompatible drivers and software can also trigger the “Software Exception 0xc0000409” error. To check for updates, follow these steps:

1. Press the Windows key + I to open Settings.

2. Click on Update & Security.

3. Under Windows Update, click on Check for updates to install any available updates.

4. If any updates are available for your software or drivers, install them and restart your computer.

  1. Run a malware scan

Sometimes malware can also cause the error message to appear. You can use Windows Defender or any other antivirus software to run a scan and remove any malware present on your computer.

  1. Repair or reinstall the application

If the error message started appearing after installing a specific application, it’s possible that the application is causing the issue. Try repairing or reinstalling the application to see if it resolves the error.

  1. Perform a clean boot

If none of the above steps work, try performing a clean boot. This will start your computer with only basic services and drivers running, allowing you to troubleshoot and isolate the cause of the error.

1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.

2. Type “msconfig” without quotes and press Enter.

3. In the System Configuration window, click on the Services tab.

4. Check the “Hide all Microsoft services” box.

5. Click on Disable all to disable all other services.

6. Click on the Startup tab.

7. Click on Open Task Manager and disable all startup items by selecting them and clicking on Disable.

8. Close Task Manager and click on OK in the System Configuration window.

9. Restart your computer and try launching the application or process that was causing the error to see if the issue has been resolved.
