Introduction

A degree symbol (°) is a vital component, especially when dealing with topics such as angles, temperature readings, and geographical coordinates. There are multiple ways to create a degree symbol on various devices and platforms. This article will present you with seven methods, ensuring that no matter what device or platform you’re using, you will find the most convenient approach.

1. Microsoft Windows Keyboard Shortcut

For Windows users, creating a degree symbol is simple using a keyboard shortcut. Just press and hold the “Alt” key and type “0176” on your numeric keypad with Num Lock activated. Release the “Alt” key, and voilà – the degree symbol appears!

2. Mac OS Keyboard Shortcut

If you’re using a Mac operating system, getting a degree symbol is also easy. Press and hold the “Shift” key and the “Option” key simultaneously. While holding those down, press the “8” key, and there you have your degree symbol.

3. iOS Devices

On an iPhone or iPad running iOS 9 or later, open an app that allows text input (like Notes). Press and hold the “0” (zero) key until a small menu appears displaying the degree symbol. Simply slide your finger over to it and release.

4. Android Devices

Android users can insert a degree symbol in any app that supports text input by opening the keyboard, tapping the “?123” or “Symbols” button (depending on your device), then locating and tapping the “°” symbol.

5. Microsoft Word Specific Shortcut

In Microsoft Word, an alternative method for inserting a degree symbol is available. Simply type “00B0” in your document followed by pressing “Alt” + “X”. This method will replace “00B0” with the desired degree symbol.

6. Copy-paste from Online Sources

If keyboard shortcuts are not your cup of tea or not available, you can always search for a degree symbol online using a search engine. Once you find it, just copy it into your clipboard and paste it wherever needed.

7. Use the Character Map.

Windows users can use the built-in Character Map utility to locate and copy the degree symbol. To access this tool, type “Character Map” in your Start Menu’s search bar and open the app. Search for the degree symbol in the displayed characters, select it, and copy it to your clipboard for pasting wherever needed.

Conclusion

Regardless of which device or platform you use, making a degree symbol is a hassle-free process. Choose from one of these seven methods to effortlessly create a degree symbol without any inconvenience.
