6 Ways to Add a Page in InDesign

Adobe InDesign is an industry-standard software that allows users to create stunning print designs, digital publishing projects, and more. One of the most common tasks done in this versatile software is adding pages to a document. In this article, we’ll explore six ways to add pages in InDesign, helping you make the most of your digital creations.

1. Insert a Single Page Using the Pages Panel

To add a single page in InDesign, go to the Pages panel (Window > Pages). Simply click on the “Create New Page” button at the bottom of the panel, which has an icon with a sheet of paper plus a plus sign. The new page will be inserted after the currently highlighted page.

2. Add Multiple Pages Simultaneously Using the Pages Panel

You can also add multiple pages at once by using the Pages panel menu. Click on the panel’s menu icon (in the top-right corner), choose “Insert Pages,” then enter the number of pages you want to add and select where they should be placed. Click OK, and all the new pages will be added at once.

3. Duplicate Existing Pages or Spreads

If you want to keep an existing design intact while creating variations or avoid starting from scratch on a new page, duplicate an existing one instead. Go to the Pages panel and right-click (or Control-click on Mac) on the page or spread you want to duplicate. Choose “Duplicate Spread” or “Duplicate Page,” and a copy of it will appear right after the original.

4. Add Facing Pages in a Document

Facing pages can be handy when designing multi-page layouts such as brochures or magazines. To enable facing pages, go to File > Document Setup and check “Facing Pages.” You can then add new spreads from the Pages panel, which will consist of two facing pages at once.

5. Use Master Pages to Add Pages with Consistent Designs

Master pages help you maintain consistency in your document by applying a predefined set of elements and designs. To add a page with a specific master, open the Pages panel and click on the “Create New Page” button while holding down the Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac) key. Then, choose the master you want to use, and the new page with that design will be added.

6. Use Keyboard Shortcuts to Add Pages Quickly

Finally, keyboard shortcuts can save time when adding pages to your InDesign document. Press Shift+Ctrl+P (Windows) or Shift+Cmd+P (Mac) to insert a new page following the one you are currently highlighting.

Adding pages in InDesign is easy when you know the right tools and techniques. Whether you’re creating single pages, duplicates, or working with masters and spreads, these six methods will help you navigate the process effortlessly and keep your designs looking sharp.
