Dyed hair can be a fun and exciting change. However, sometimes the color can come out a bit too dark or intense. Luckily, there are natural and affordable ways to lighten dyed hair without causing any damage. One of the most popular solutions is using baking soda – a versatile household item. In this article, we will discuss four simple methods to lighten your hair using baking soda.

1. Baking Soda and Water

The simplest method involves just two ingredients: baking soda and water.

– Mix equal parts of baking soda and water to create a paste.

– Apply the paste evenly to your hair, focusing on areas you want to lighten.

– Leave the mixture on for about 15-20 minutes.

– Rinse thoroughly with cool water, followed by shampoo and conditioner.

This method helps gradually lighten your hair without causing any harm.

2. Baking Soda and Shampoo

Incorporating baking soda into your regular hair washing routine can give you controlled lightening results.

– Mix one part baking soda with two parts of your regular shampoo.

– Apply the mixture to your damp hair and gently massage it in.

– Leave the mixture on for around 10 minutes.

– Rinse thoroughly with cool water, followed by conditioner.

Doing this about once a week will give you gradual lightening effects without damaging your hair.

3. Baking Soda and Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is known for its natural bleaching properties, which can be amplified when combined with baking soda.

– Mix equal parts of baking soda and lemon juice to create a paste.

– Apply the paste evenly to your hair, focusing on areas you want to lighten.

– Leave the mixture on for about 30 minutes (do not exceed an hour).

– Rinse thoroughly with cool water, followed by shampoo and conditioner.

Be cautious with this method as the acidity in lemon juice can be drying to the hair. Use a deep conditioning treatment afterward to keep your hair hydrated.

4. Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is a common hair-lightening agent. Combining it with baking soda provides a powerful lightening effect.

– Mix equal parts of baking soda and 3% hydrogen peroxide to create a paste.

– Apply the paste evenly to your hair, focusing on areas you want to lighten.

– Leave the mixture on for about 30 minutes (do not exceed an hour).

– Rinse thoroughly with cool water, followed by shampoo and conditioner.

Please note that this method can be more aggressive, so it’s important to keep an eye on your hair’s condition and stop immediately if any discomfort occurs.

Conclusion

Baking soda is an effective and affordable option for lightening dyed hair. You can choose any of these four methods based on the desired result and your hair’s tolerance level. Always remember to keep track of your hair’s health and condition while experimenting with these methods, ensuring that your tresses remain vibrant and beautiful.
