3 Ways to Make Dumplings with Self-Rising Flour

Dumplings are a versatile and delicious dish that can be enjoyed by all. They can be filled with a variety of ingredients, from vegetables to meat, or even sweet fillings for dessert. One of the critical components in making dumplings is the dough. Most recipes call for all-purpose flour, but using self-rising flour can save time and simplify the process. Here are three ways to make dumplings with self-rising flour.

1. Steamed Dumplings

Ingredients:

– 2 cups self-rising flour

– 1 cup water (or as needed)

– Filling of your choice (ex: minced pork, chopped vegetables, or sweet red bean paste)

Instructions:

1. In a large bowl, combine the self-rising flour and water until a dough forms. Adjust the water amount if necessary to achieve a smooth and pliable dough.

2. Divide the dough into small pieces, about the size of a golf ball.

3. Flatten each piece into a round disc. Spoon your desired filling into the center.

4. Carefully seal the edges of each dumpling by pinching them together, creating a half-moon shape.

5. Place the assembled dumplings on a steamer lined with parchment paper, maintaining some distance between them.

6. Steam for 15-20 minutes, until the dough becomes translucent and cooked through.

2. Boiled Dumplings

Ingredients:

– 2 cups self-rising flour

– 1 cup water (or as needed)

– Filling of your choice (ex: minced chicken, chopped shrimp, or cabbage)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the dough following steps 1-4 of the steamed dumplings recipe above.

2. Bring a large pot of water to boil.

3. Gently drop assembled dumplings into boiling water one by one to avoid overcrowding.

4. Cook for 8-10 minutes, until the dumplings start to float on the surface and the dough is cooked through. Remove them using a slotted spoon.

5. Serve hot with dipping sauce like soy sauce or black vinegar mixed with chopped fresh garlic and chili oil.

3. Pan-Fried Dumplings

Ingredients:

– 2 cups self-rising flour

– 1 cup water (or as needed)

– Filling of your choice (ex: ground beef, spinach, or tofu)

– Oil for frying

Instructions:

1. Prepare the dough following steps 1-4 of the steamed dumplings recipe above.

2. Heat oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat.

3. Carefully place assembled dumplings in the pan, making sure they do not touch each other.

4. Fry for a few minutes until the bottom is golden brown.

5. Reduce the heat to low, and carefully pour in enough water to cover the bottom of the pan by about 1/4 inch.

6. Cover and let cook for 8-10 minutes, allowing the water to evaporate and steam the dumplings.

7. Once all of the water has evaporated, remove the lid and let them continue cooking until crispy on both sides.

8. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Using self-rising flour for your dumpling dough simplifies these three different cooking methods while still delivering impressive results – tender, flavorful dumplings everyone will love!
