Introduction:

Staying connected to loved ones, business partners or friends across the pond has never been easier with advances in technology. In this article, we will discuss the three common methods for making a call from the United Kingdom to the United States.

1. Traditional Landline or Mobile Phone:

Using a traditional landline or mobile phone is still one of the most common ways to make an international call.

To place a call from the UK to the US, follow these steps:

a. Dial the international access code, which is 00 for calls originating in the UK.

b. Enter the United States’ country code, which is 1.

c. Dial the area code of the location you are calling (e.g., 212 for New York City).

d. Complete with the local phone number you wish to reach.

For example, if you are calling a New York City phone number (212) 555-1234, you would dial: 00-1-212-555-1234.

2. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP):

VoIP services like Skype and WhatsApp allow users to make voice calls over the internet using an app installed on their smartphones or computers. These services often provide more affordable rates than traditional phone plans and, in some cases, may even be free if both parties are using the same platform.

Here’s how to use these services:

a. Download and install your preferred VoIP app on your smartphone or computer.

b. Create an account and log in.

c. Add your contact either by their username or phone number including ‘+1’ (the US country code) followed by their area code and phone number (e.g., +12125551234

d. Tap or click on the contact and select “Call” to initiate the voice cal

3. Phone Card

International phone cards are still a popular option for making calls to the US from the UK. These prepaid cards offer a predetermined amount of calling time and can be purchased at a variety of retailers including grocery stores, service stations, and newsagents.

Using a phone card generally involves the following step:

a. Purchase the phone card at a retailer or onlin

b. Locate the access number provided on the card. Dial this number from your landline or mobile phone.

c. Follow the voice prompts and enter your personal identification number (PIN), usually found on the back of the card or in an email if purchased online.

d. Dial the US number you want to call, including the international access code, country code, area code, and local phone number (e.g., 00-1-212-555-1234).

e. Start your conversation!

Conclusion:

Calling the United States from the United Kingdom has never been simpler with various options depending on your preference and budget. Whether you choose to use a traditional landline, a VoIP service or an international phone card, staying connected with friends and family in the US is just a few digits away.
