What Users Love About the App
“The kids and I are addicted to this game! I love how creative you can be with customizing your creature as it moves up the evolutionary chain. You decide whether you want it to be an herbivore, carnivore or omnivore; whether it is aggressive or passive in dealing with other creatures, etc. You can even have different creatures on different worlds all evolving on their own tracks then when they get to the space race, can even meet.”
“This is a creative, visually impressive, fun game for kids. There are so many different possible combinations of creatures to be custom designed & evolved from a cell. Once evolved to a complex creature they become civilized and you take them though stages of civilization from tribal all the way up to space. Along the way you also custom create villages, buildings, vehicles, industry, etc for your creatures.”
“If you haven’t tried this game, or you want something for your kids to try, this is it! It kind of teaches them the history of civilization from a single cell organism to a superpower to a space exploring civilization. Fun, entertaining, and overall can bring out a lot of creativity, strategy and brain-use in a fun way!”
“Spore is an excellent family-friendly game that can teach a wide variety of scientific subjects while being fun and inspiring a lot of creativity. There are 5 stages of the game, each one a kind of game in its own. Each one focuses on simple evolutionary concepts, anthropological concepts or cosmological concepts, sure to teach without the kids even being aware of it.”
“One of the best things about Spore is that unlike most games, you are not forced to kill everything to advance the game. You can actually play the entire game never killing anything and being purely peaceful and making friends. This is one of the few games I don’t mind my kids playing a lot.”
What Users Dislike About the App
“The software is awful. It took us hours to get around the install problems and then we found out the key code had already been used! Based on the reviews and forum comments, I’m not even bothering with EA to try and resolve this issue. Our best guess is that someone has figured out their key algorithm and the codes are being activated illegally. So, even though we bought a brand new game, the verification key is useless and my son can only play a limited portion of the game.”
“This version of Spore does not work reliably on our Mac computer. I would not recommend this product as it only causes frustration and disappointment. To make matters worse when I contacted Electronic Arts they did not respond to my request for help. Terrible company and terrible game.”
“Doesn’t work on Windows or Mac. Hours of time spent on patches and updates and nonsense, all to waste my time. Amazon should give everyone their money back after purchasing this game.”
“I ordered this game a long time ago partly due to the hype, partly due to history of EA/Maxis with the Sims and other franchises, but was distraught to find out that the policy they had decided to take on activating the product – worse than WINDOWS and we have seen how well that process works.”
“This game is really annoying to install. I kept getting coded errors which I had to google to discover that these are issues long ago reported to EA and they don’t seem to care to fix them. I finally got the game going for my daughter and that lasted only a day, then it wouldn’t start up again – can you believe this? Are we supposed to wipe our hard drives clean and do a full system install every time we want to play this game?”
