Product Review of PhotoPuppet

PhotoPuppet is the first app available on the iPad that allows you to use a timeline with accurate timing and movement control. This app lets you crop items from your pictures and move them around on your screen while it records everything you do, helping you create a movie. You can choose from the default puppets available in the app or use customized ones. Edit the videos with a timeline like in iMovie and export it to YouTube. You can also edit individual movement tracks.

What Users Love About the App
“I’ve been looking for a good clip art animator to make little videos like the bits in Monty Python and this is perfect. It didn’t take too long to figure out and it has a lot of creative potential. I’m glad it was free, but I would be willing to pay a few dollars for it after learning it with a free trial period. Thank you for making and sharing this.”
“The greatest test of a creation tool is whether it inspires you with more ideas for what to do with it than you have time to implement. This app passes that test with flying colors. The interface buries some of the best stuff, go read the manual – it’s worth it!”
“This app is the best kept secret in the app store! Once this catches it will be huge! Thanks for the great work I love that you can basically make your own episodes of south park and it’s very user friendly! Keep up the great work.”
“Wonderfully creative and inspirational!!! Takes some patience to get the hang of things, though. Online tutorials on the developer’s website are great resources.”
“The ability to import your own puppets and backgrounds make this endlessly entertaining. One can easily use a sketching/painting app, save in the photo library, and import for all sorts of fun. Well worth the money!!!”
What Users Dislike About the App
“The app is very nice but there is no support for it on the creator’s website. I was looking for the manual that the developer has a link to but all they have is information on “Explain everything”.”
“It keeps crashing every single time i try to import an image. Very disappointing.”
“If everything worked, this would be amazing for my students. However. It is so buggy, I have to keep biting my tongue when I want to sing its praises. Until the last update, I couldn’t do anything without the app crashing. Now, the app crashes much less often, but puppets disappear randomly.’
“Would be awesome if it didn’t crash and move my pictures to random places during export. Can’t attach more than one object to a picture and is very inaccurate when trying to move objects around. Other objects move when you try to move a different object and objects get attached to the wrong picture.”
“The rotate feature is incredibly frustrating. The whole app is incredibly frustrating especially when it crashes and doesn’t save any of your work. Body parts sometimes teleport to random areas of the screen for no reason. It’s crazy. Fix this crap and you have a great app.”
