Product Review of Mindnode

Mindnode allows you to make mind maps of main ideas and sub-categories and topics. You can brainstorm along with other group members, add your own ideas, and see theirs in real time. You can highlight ideas, move thoughts around, and visually represent what is going on in your brain. If you are having a difficult time organizing your thoughts, this app works well for groups and for individuals.

What Users Love About the App
“Mindnode is one of the best mind mapping apps that I’ve ever used. It does exactly what you need and doesn’t try to do more. That way it doesn’t get in your way and it allows you to just flow with your ideas.”
“The ease of adding branches and moving them around. Identifying them by color. Having multiple projects going. That it’s a Mac-only app and that it can tie into to-do list apps. Plenty of control to make it visually distinctive between branches.”
“This idea-mapping tool is so versatile it can be used for many other projects. You can customize themes and create hierarchies. Use your mouse, add text, move lines around… so easy and efficient.”
“Mindnode is super simple to use. I really liked the theme which allowed me to quickly change the look of my mind maps for different audiences and even multiple mind maps. Being able to send the mind node in open formats was an added plus. also PDF export was helpful for distributing virtual copies of the maps.”
“I love that MindNode gives you the freedom of a blank template to organize all thoughts and tasks and further prioritize each task, add notes, reorganize, etc. I love being able to rearrange a node I initially thought belonged elsewhere.”
What Users Dislike About the App
“It doesn’t seem to allow me to split the branches equally when I place them at the top of the main branch. I don’t see that it has much automation controls, such as an if/then else type of situations.”
“We have found that, when the program is updated, documents need to be updated also. The process is seamless but, from time to time, the program becomes non-responsive.”
“Not being able to really “layout” the mind map in a way which made sense to me was a hindrance. Also moving nodes between one tree to another tree wasn’t very intuitive either. The export to Freemind didn’t seem to translate well from a Mac to a PC.”
“It gets cluttered when you are making a mind mode. It’s also difficult to edit as you get deeper into the mind node. If you have to edit a lot then you need to be very careful of how you create the node.”
“There are no pre-design templates. Some staff has a hard time just starting on a blank page. There are days your creativity just isn’t there and guidance would be helpful.”
