Product Review of Mangahigh

Mangahigh has many casual games that will build skills in math. With slightly repetitive but fun tasks, these games help learners master skills while still allowing for “hidden learning.” Repetition is an essential way to practice, but it can only be fun in the form of a game. (Using this app is much better than doing lots of math problems that are nearly all the same on paper.) The games are not too hard to play, but they give players just the right amount of challenge, so they will enjoy this method of learning.

What Users Love About the App
“I like Manga High best as assigned lessons aligned with the curriculum. This option allows for students to work individually at their own pace while still being able to do the fun, competitive games that help them build their skills.”
“I knew that I loved Manga High when my 15-17-year-olds loved it. Our first stab at using it for whole-class instruction was the mummy game and as the levels progressed, my students felt not only challenged but excited to progress through the game.”
“MangaHigh is very engaging for all students. As a school, a competition amongst individuals can be set up as well as against other schools. Students are extremely motivated to be on the top of the leader board and to continue learning!”
There is no doubt that students will have great reinforcement from these games. Used Mangahigh.com with K-5 pre-service teachers as a technology integration resource they could consider/use in the classroom. Might actually recommend as a resource for pre-service teachers who need to review their math skills in preparation for PRAXIS II.”
“The Teach Me section is great for whole group instruction during a lesson on triangle angles. Once students have a handle on the idea of angles and the need for them to equal 180 degrees, they are equipped to begin playing the game independently to practice and reinforce the knowledge.”
What Users Dislike About the App
“One thing that I would change about this product to make it work better for me is to make it free. It is difficult to find programs that engage students that are free.”
“I think the interface feels a little outdated. I also think it would be better if there were more options for lessons before students play the games”
“I would like the option for problems and lessons to be read to the students. Some of the students are nonreaders and need things read to them.”
“I feel the best improvement that could be made to the product would be to increase the visual graphics to make the program more engaging for students.”
“The graphics to me were muted in color and really vibrant. The other thing is that I don’t like the fact that guns are used in some of the games.”
