What Users Love About the App
“It is easy to use. I have made roughly four videos using this program when COVID hit and will be making about five more shortly. I use Kaltura primarily for how-to videos. I like how when I move my mouse across the screen that Kaltura enhances your cursor so people who watch the video can follow along with you a lot easier. You can save your drafts and pause in the middle of a recording if needed.”
“Kaltura excels in innovation and cutting-edge procedures, which demonstrate the benefits to the end users. There are many features that are incorporated as part of the whole. A comprehensive management page can make the end-user experience more effective by turning off unnecessary features. This can be one of the most valuable offerings.”
“We are using the Kaltura video portal. Its a very full featured platform with features such as machine-generated caption files, transcriptions, a screen capture tool, in-video caption search, basic online editor and the ability to create simple “LMS-like” video quizzes. Kaltura is innovative and continually enhancing their offerings.”
“We’ve been able to use the KMS Go app to gather user generated content easily throughout lockdown and still be able to deliver good quality content to our audience. The new Kaltura Rooms has also enabled us to continue delivery of interactive sessions online, with media rich resources.”
“It integrates nicely with our Blackboard and Canvas LMSs. To the latter, Canvas, I will say that Kaltura support, after a while, did ID the issues with integration, worked with me remotely to enable all the features, and did get it functional. For me, as an admin, there’s a lot functionality to repair and replace videos, add additional materials, and re-assign ownership as needed.”
What Users Dislike About the App
“The app is poorly optimized for certain platforms such as iPad. Playing audio while sharing screen can often result in poor replay quality and will not stay in same location once flipped back to the main screen.”
“It is really annoying that Kaltura Capture defaults to start every time I boot my PC. There is not a simple way to change this setting. I had to go to my windows boot menu to change this.”
“The only thing that I can think of is to make the “pause” and “resume” buttons a bit easier to remember. In the moment of a presentation, I often forget how to pause the video and end up having to restart from the beginning. I think some basic editing could be very helpful–light cropping to get rid of “dead” time.”
“It takes forever to upload once the recording has finished. I’m not sure what kind of processing has to take place here, but I often can’t access videos for hours after the recording has finished.”
“Kaltura needs some sort of software update to improve functionality, it is probably the most clunky software I have ever used. Examples of issues I have had with Kaltura include: recording lectures for a class – as I am recording a lecture the software will just quit. When I try to reopen the software to see if the recording saved it will not re-open. It unexpectedly quits regularly.”
