Product Review of iTunes U

iTunes U has the biggest database of free education from museums, universities, and cultural institutions. It provides instructors with all that they may need to bring the classroom together on an iPad. You can start class discussions, build lessons with apps and your personal materials, collect and grade assignments, or have a conversation with learners to answer questions.

What Users Love About the App
“I love the fact that it is like a real classroom. You have comments and the professor can add videos and you can watch them at your own pace. It is very good and helpful for all the parents or the people that are working because you can study at random times during your day. You can stop your lesson anytime you want and continue it later, or the next time.”
“I mentioned this app while in grad school interview for an anesthesia program. The lady in the panel looked around the room and also vouched for this app. Needless to say, I got in and for years prior while preparing for that amazing journey, I used iTunes U for organic chemistry and biochemistry refresher courses.”
“I learned how to program from a course on here! All the open content on this rich platform allows everyone to participate in learning and growth, at their own pace and ability level. Lots of respect for iTunes U!”
“I thought you had to pay to subscribe but they are free! It’s really great. Thank you Apple for this. It’s really great and I can access my courses from the homepage of my app.”
“I like that iTunes U allows its users to learn basically anything they’d like. As an educator, I like to browse the app for ideas to use in the classroom.”
What Users Dislike About the App
“This app needs some of the usability features of the Podcasts app. The biggest drawback in my opinion is that you cannot reopen the app and immediately be able to start listening where you left off which makes a horribly clunky experience of trying to remember what class you’ve been working with and what lesson/episode you are on, especially if you had to stop partway through a lesson.”
“Apple is severely limiting this app’s potential by trying to keep it so exclusive. Not only are they refusing to allow it to work in conjunction with other platforms, but you can’t even access it from other Apple devices such as your laptop or desktop computer.”
“Classes are organized in a way that is confusing and I end up going to the wrong classes. It should be organized like PowerSchool, but a bit different to give it its own unique design. I’ve been trying to figure out how to work this app and I’ve been really struggling. Please make this less confusing!”
“I didn’t understand why I couldn’t get my old content to download, eg. one of my courses only downloaded two of four books, and from the course I cannot get any access to the videos that accompany the lectures, so, what does this app do now? Nothing useful for what I can see…”
“Low-quality courses are often found, which do not allude to the entities that claim to be endorsed. I consider that they should regulate a little more, the veracity of the content that is uploaded to the platform. It is only available for Apple devices like iPhone, iPad or iPod touch; These limits users who have other types of devices.”
