What Users Love About the App
“This is the way Montessori apps should be done. This works so well. A must have app for any 2 year old. Maria Montessori would have been proud. The App is extremely designed and stays true to Montessori principals. We use this in our school and the progress children make is remarkable”
“I have been wondering how some of the montessori-type educational theory would play out on an ipad and now i totally get it! Soothing on the eyes and ears, these activities hit a different chord than a lot of the math apps for kids I have downloaded so far, filling a gap and rounding out my math app collection nicely. More about getting a feel for the concept of numbers instead of memorizing the algorithms and winning a game.”
“I’m a fan of Montessori style education primarily because of the responsibility it places on the child to learn simply by providing an interesting, educational environment. This app does just that. As a webpage designer/programer I was sold on the quality of the app, but to be able to hand my phone to my 3-yr old and have him on his own go through each exercise was just amazing.”
“This app is great for teaching and reinforcing 1-10 number skills. It uses several Montessori activities as its foundation for teaching and reinforcing 1-10 numerals and 1-10 quantities. It has 6 different choices of games. Some of the games have different levels of play to them. The voices are sweet and kind. The interface is child friendly.”
“My wife and I downloaded Intro to Math after we noticed it in the “New and Noteworthy” section of iTunes. We were instantly drawn to the beauty of the design and decided to try it out. We wondered if the educational value could meet the aesthetics of the design. After just a few minutes, and the experience of the simplistic charms of the very first activity, we were totally blown away. There are so many layers to the activities, that we even enjoyed playing with them.”
What Users Dislike About the App
“Unfortunately, the app does not work well. Every time my kid leaves an exercise, it starts from the beginning, which quickly becomes tedious. It does not allow the student to progress. User input is disabled regularly to finish a slow animation, so the kid feels the app is not responding. Many simple mis-clicks result in waiting for several seconds for a canned audio to repeat itself.”
“There is no place in the advertising that I could find that indicted age level. Trust me, do NOT buy this app for an 8 year old. I was very disappointed and feel as tho I have wasted my $5.”
“I read parenting magazines review and took the chance at spending the money for the app. Now I know why there is not a free to try option! It is a very basic application and does not offer much of any education. The wood block sorting has the best interface when using but is rudimentary with no chance to increase difficulty as my 4 year old did the one the first try. The number tracing is no better than a host of free applications.”
“I’m pretty upset with this app… The controls are sloppy and the games are incredibly boring. For instance, if you drop a number too early or not precisely on the line you have to watch it slowly crawl back to the bottom of the screen before you can try again. Kids don’t have patience for this stuff.”
“Don’t buy this if you are using an iPhone. It does not function properly on the small screen. The sandpaper letters get stuck and cannot be completed. The drag and drop numbers do not snap into place unless very precise movement are used–movements a very coordinated 4-year old (an even mom) can’t manage.”
