Product Review of Grasshopper: Learn to Code
This tool can be used to learn JavaScript coding. It is available on both Android and iOS devices. A user can start as a beginner and skip lessons that cover topics with, they are familiar. The app is divided into four courses, each of which has detailed information about how to write real JavaScript code.

What Users Love About the App
“It is much easier to learn with these piece-by-piece bite-size code examples, than by just reading a dry text articles about Java. Now I understand much better what those articles were about, when I was shown how it worked in this app. If even I can understand it, anyone can. I like the app a lot.”
“This truly an amazing app from Google! And yes! This is the best app of its kind right now and it deserves to be a model app for all others. It brings a formidable dedication, a human approach and a lot of fun to Object-Oriented and other complex computer Languages some would find boring and austere. I am delighted by the spirit the developers put on this fantastic app.”
“Amazing app and so easy to use. Took me from not knowing a single thing to writing out my own basic “programs” in 5 days. And it’s FREE… This is easily something they could charge you for.”
“I’m a 15year old kid and I enjoy this a lot because its super easy and I actually get what they are saying and I gotta say its better than my other coding career options thank you developers and hope u keep making things like this.”
“I really like this app. Like other Google software, the UI is buttery-smooth and a pleasure to use. Lessons and definitions are helpful, and Grasshopper Support is likewise helpful and responsive. Being able to review through practice lessons and multiple iterations of the same concepts helps solidify.”
What Users Dislike About the App
“I’ve been using this app for a while and I’ve been stuck on a quiz for over a week. Not because I can’t figure out the answer, but the app itself won’t let me select one. I can’t just skip it because progress is locked. I can report the bug because that button isn’t working either.”
“I’m really confused why they start the way they do. Why are we creating flags? Why isn’t anything ACTUALLY explained? I understand what is going on because I already know some but the way they start and teach is bizarre and not conducive to actually understanding the WHY behind the code.”
“Didn’t work after tutorial! Suggests you to contact support if there is a problem, as if there’s going to be a problem to start and of a surety there was a problem! I chose not to waste my time on this when expecting to experience and learn something new! Thanks but “No thanks!”.”
“Not for beginners. It just throws you in and does a terrible job of explaining what and why it is having you do. And the “puzzles” just give you a few lines of code and it tells you to change the word blue to orange and then it congratulates you and gives you a short explanation bit then does not let you go back and review what you just did to try to make some sense out of it.”
“After several attempts at learning to code from different sources I’ve come to the conclusion that those who develop learning tools for Java are elitist and this app falls squarely in that category. Wanna learn how to add 1+1, no problem, wasn’t that fun!? Now we’re gonna skip explaining concepts and just have you plug in what we tell you!”
